to getting messed up all the time. I have realized that I cannot deal with my problems appropriately and I use drugs to escape and numb my feelings. I know this is wrong and hurtful in the end, but what else can you do?? How do you just learn to start dealing with your problems head on after years of self-medicating? It's terrifying to me. I've started cutting myself too in order to numb my feelings. I'm kind of rambling, I guess what I mean to say is that I want to stop drugs but want to know what I should put in place of drugs so that I don't go completely mad.

My suggestion to you would be to get yourself into a 12 step NA or AA program as soon as possible, and by finding a sponsor who will gently place your hand in God's hand.
Good Luck,
Marie

hey, thanks for your reply, but I mean more what literal things do you do if you have a craving or something like that? Do you keep a journal, stuff like that?

Hey digmusic,
Keeping a daily journal is a great idea. But it's not gonna keep you from using. You have heard us over and over telling you that you need a 12 step program, sponsor....someone to call when those cravings hit hard. That is THE most important tool I have when I have those cravings to use. I'm over 4 months clean and there are times when I have to call my sponsor or another recovering addict to help me get out of my sick head and so I will not go back out and use.
I guess my question is - Why are you so resistant to getting help from another person? Therapy possibly, rehab, 12 step.... You can NOT do this by yourself. You are an addict just like me, so I know where your head takes you and it's not a good place to be. Our sick thinking is what has gotten us into the situations we are in right now.
What is a scarier thought to you right now? That you will be in active addiction until the day your die (which with our drugs of choice like mine and yours, won't be long in many cases) or getting the help you need to get and stay clean and sober.
There's no quick fix, nothing that you can put in the place of using other than the things we told you before. When you are sick and tired of being sick and tired you will take that next step.
Are you still coming home for the holidays? If so, I hope you have a safe trip home. And as always dig, you're in my prayers.

Hi There, What type of things have you tried to get off the drugs? Have you been to rehab or have you considered Methadone or Suboxone maintenance?
Going to NA or AA would be a good idea for you as well as keeping a journal.
If you feel comfortable sharing with us all here, then we would be more than happy to listen if you would like to tell us your whole story. I bet you would get some great advice!!!!
Have a great day,
Valley
