OK guys, heres what has happened. i got sick around thanksgiving time, the usual... cough, runny nose, sore throat etc. i went to see the doctors, and they gave me a cough syrup and some antibiotics, cephalexin i believe, because they thought it might be strep throat. anyway, i finished my 14-days of antibiotics, and it seemed like i was all better.

then on the 15th day, my throat was itchy, and i started coughing a little bit. i ached all over, and i had a 101 deg fever, a really bad headache, and my throat was so swelled up, it was too hard to swallow anything. i went to see the doctor, and got a throat culture, but it was negative. later that day my parents made me go to the ER because they wanted me to get IV, to help lower my temperature. so i went, and the doctor diagnosed me with the viral flu, and said there was no antibiotics i could take. so i just got mo re rest and more nutritious foods, and it seemed like i was getting better. my fever all gone, and i felt fine. all except for my cough.

the cough went almost 95% went away, but for the past 2 weeks, ive had this small cough, every 5-10 mins. im not coughing anything up, but sometimes i just hav the urge to cough. im really confused, because im not getting worse, but i have this cough, without any other symptoms. what could this be? ive been sick for nearly a month now, and im starting to get really nervous. should i just go see the doctor to make s ure? thanks for any advice and suggestions.

Cough after flu can last up to 6 weeks. Sounds pretty normal to me. Also sounds like you were unlucky enough to get two infections--one right after the other.

Sometimes, bronchitis can go into a chronic stage and take up to 6 weeks to clear up. The symptoms of bronchitis are very similar to those of the flu.

Last year, I had this happen and I didn't quit coughing for 6 weeks. It was a little disconcerting but it did go away.
