 Hi guys,
As most of you know, i had a course of iron infusions a few months back.
I got a call from my doc today to say my follow up bloods have shown my ferritin is still 3.
Im having an endometrial resection feb 13th, in hope of stopping my periods, but my docs refering me URGENTLY back to the heamotologist.
Is it that it hasnt worked or have i just 'lost' it all again through horrendously heavy periods?
Any ideas what the next step may be?
Thanks
Linds

If the source of the blood loss has not been stopped, then you are simply not storing any ferritin. It sounds like you are getting just enough iron to make it day to day but no reserves. It is not going to get better until the leak is stopped, then it will take another 6-12 months to store enough to put the ferritin level into normal. But, don't worry too much about it as long as your doctor is keeping an eye on you. Some people keep a low ferritin and do ok anyway.

Thanks merrimac.
Unfortunately, low ferritin affects me as bad as when im 'clinically aneamic', ie shortness of breath, palpitations, anxiety etc etc.
Im just SO fed up with all this, im like 2 steps forwards and 5 back!
My doc is great though, he called me up as soon as my results where back.
He mentioned, that when ive had my op, they may do a blood transfusion, which has slightly freaked me, but what the heck, if they offered me draculars blood id gladly accept (lol).
Lets just see what the heamo has to say.
Thanks for your input.
have a great christmas.
