PLease somebody tell me good things about it. Im so scared Im going to die. I have never been under any heavy drugs or had any procedure like this before. For some reason I am scared that the cocktail they give me will kill me. I know Im nuts but I just got off the phone with the doctor and he wants to admit me right away to get the ablation done.

Ablation is such a safe procedure. The risk of complications is less than 1% and the risk of death is even lower than that. It's extremely unlikely that anything bad will happen to you, and even more unlikely that you will die. Normally you aren't under heavy drugs during an ablation. You're not usually under general, you're usually just sedated, so that's something you shouldn't have to worry about.

Thank you for the reply. I panic pretty bad when it comes to things like that. I talked to the doctor today and they started me on toprol twice a day. He actually started me on 25mg a day 12.5 in the morning and the other half in the evening. So far so good. I have taken atenolol before and it made my pvc's worse. So I am praying this one will work.
Take care everyone and Happy Holidays!

I have not had an ablation done and will be getting one done asap after I have my baby. I have heard that they just sedate you yet you are still awake. So mostly you will get high and be aware of what is going on. I think you need to be somewhat aware so you can talk to the doctors. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

Yes, you don't have to be awake. I was done under general anesthetic.

I just had an ablation on Dec 2, 2005. My thought at this point and time is WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO HAVE THIS DONE!

I had SVT for 11 years, notice I said HAD, and now I am cured! The ablation is nothing to be afraid of! I was like you for so many years! Scared to death! During the procedure I was asleep, but, I could hear the nurses and doctors talking sometimes. My mouth was really dry and I tried to talk a few times, but, I was not able to. I did feel them throw me into rapid heart beat one time and I actually heard the doctor say "There is another one." I have had some flutters in my heart since the procedure, but, not many. You will be glad you had this procedure done. Believe me! You will be just fine!

I wonder anyone woke up and cough a lot? I woke up with a plastic tube in my mouth so I couldn't talk. After they pulled it out, it made a lot of bubbles then I cough like mad. I also had one catheter which was stitched at my left groin. I was very very sick when I woke up. It wasn't right? But next day I'm fine and I can walk with that catheter.

Anyone had a mirror put behind the chest during the ablation? I had one but I never heard anyone in the forum mention that?

Nice to share the story with you all.

Pika.

dont worry about a thing.u will be awake throughout the opp.u may feel a slight discomfort inbetween your shoulder blades and the usual feeling u get when u have svt/palpitations.it is a little bit invasive where every1 is looking at you and saying words you dont understand (science talk) but the best thing u can do is relax.u will be given the choice of sedation, if u feel any pain.leave the rest to the professions. i was out the hospital and hour or two after the opp.sore groin and bit stiff from the bed, but thats it.just relax, its a story u can tell after and let other ppl know how simple and routine it actually is.

I myself have svt and understand the worry about drugs and too the ablation. Im a scaredy cat and should have gotten the ablation a long time ago so I can live again. Im not on any pills cause im worried about them actually making my life worse.

When you get it done please let us know how you are and how it went.

i had two ablations. the first one, that did not cure my problem, i was fast asleep and recooperated quickly. the second one cured my problem and i have been fib and flutter free for a year now. i do remember some of the operation though.
