Hi all,

I want to introduce myself...my name is Jenny and I'm 25 yrs old. I have been dealing with bowel issues since I was a toddler (constipation). As of last sunday, I had accidentally let my UTI get out of control that it went internal and caused my WBC get too high that it in turn attacked my RBC. Since that day, I have been having diarreha and this strange pains. Sometimes I will accidentally soil my undies with poop and I have no control. I am seriously scared. I was in the hospital and the doctors said I may have IBS, or something serious and for me to follow this "BRAT" diet, which I am leery of trying because it will trigger me (has eating disorder history).

What I'm curious is... is there anyone in here that has any advice? Sometimes even when I MOVE it will cause me to have to GO...other times, if I eat...immediately I have to go. Once I tried to feed myself Jevity 1.2 bolus into my J-tube (feeding tube) and I ended up soiling my pants. I didn't even know until I felt a bubble and a big wet mess in my butt area.

I'm scared... is there a possiblity that I may have a paralyzed colon or something? Any ideas I can contribute to my doctor?

Jen

*oh and I'm not allowed to have too much fiber and this brat diet only consists of banana, rice, apple, and toast. I can't have anything but those.
And to add, from Sun to Tues, my bowels were dark GREEN...today it's brown but very diarreha'y. I can't for the life of me stop this diarreha. I'm on many meds, including antibiotics*

I'm sorry for bothering you all, I just thought that maybe one of you can either offer me some info of what it might possibly be or perhaps a comforting shoulders. I hope that maybe one of you might be able to respond, if not...that's ok. Have a happy holiday

jenny,

Sorry about your problems!!
As you may know antibiotics do have side-effects of diarrhea because it kills off the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria. This causes your friendly bacteria to get out of balance. So, you need something to make the friendly intestinal bacteria to get back in balance..

Until the balance gets back right in your intestines, I don't see how you cannot have diarrhea.
Your intestine contain over 400 differient bacteria that for normal absorption and BMs have to be in balance.

I use yogurt that contains 6 different active cultures-- Stonyfield Farm -- that I buy at a health food store. It contains Lactobacillus reuteri that is cultured from mother's milk in Sweden and is the only yogurt sold in the States that contain it. It is one lactobacillus strain that re-colonizes your intestines-- there are 56 other strains that have been identified in your intestines.
Acidophilus is another very important bacteria that helps absorption as well as digestion.

You need also to be taking a probiotic supplement to help re-balance the friendly flora. I have used Culturelle, Pearls by Enzymatic Therapy and PB-8 several times daily. Also, Kefir is loaded with good friendly bacteria.

Having a very watery stool does not promote good health but results in malaborption problems. Also, with a BRAT diet where is the protein that is needed so you don't loose muscle mass. It may be OK for a little while but certainly does not build health and should not be use for very long.

What other meds are you taking?

God Bless ---Harry

Why do you have a feeding tube?

Why do you have a feeding tube?

I have an eating disorder that I've struggled with for thirteen years and after reaching my lowest weight for the third time, the doctor said that I have to have it-- if I didn't voluntarily agree, they will court order it. If I agree, it's 3-5 yrs, court ordered it to be 5-7 yrs. I ended up agreeing. My life was on the line and I was very sick.

I'm now into my 8th month of being in recovery, hopefully i'll soon be recoverED.
