View Full Version : Colon issue-feels like something up there?

I'm new to the board, so go easy on me.

I've had this feeling that I need to go to the bathroom all the time for the past few months. I went in for a CT Scan, and they said it looks like there's a polyp.

I'm 34, and I am TERRIFIED this is cancer. I'm having a colonoscopy on Tuesday, and frankly, I'm not even afraid of it any more, I just want to have it over with.

I just am needing some reassurance that everything will be okay, I guess. I have a bit of obsessive disorder, and I can't seem to stop thinking about cancer.

Annie:
Don't worry until you have all your information... I know it's easier said than done. But, if they noted a polyp, but didn't mention thickening of the rectum or colon (which a ct is usually used for) than I wouldn't worry too much. You are doing the right thing by getting a colonoscopy. I commend you for that. It's better to know or get it taken care of in early stages then to go on wondering, and if you do have something serious, letting it grow out of hand.

Best of luck with the colonoscopy.

Drink plenty of fluids during prep... sports drinks are good. And use plenty of hemorrhoid ointment with each bm. It will help you from getting sore.

Also, during the procedure, if you feel discomfort, don't be afraid to ask for more drugs.

Again, best of luck, and please keep us posted.

Regards,
CancerDad

I understand your fears completely, as I'm also an obsessive type. Please try to stay positive and remember that many polyps are not cancerous. I wish you the best and please keep us posted.

Hi Annie. CancerDad is right on. The CT scan is pretty specific in what it can tell -- my mom had a tumor detected on CT and the CT was pretty specific about it. I think it even noted, 'solid mass on ascending colon, thickening of colonic wall, suspicious for malignancy," or something like that, and they were right on.

So try and relax -- I know easier said than done. And feel very lucky it's going to be out soon. The colonoscopy is a piece of cake. Ask for Versed and Demerol. You won't know a thing! I just had one a few weeks ago and it was easier than a trip to the dentist. I had a sessile polyp removed. I was pretty nervous too as my mother has colon cancer. But it was such an easy procedure I know I won't even be nervous next time.

Good luck and please do post and let us know.

Hugs,

Michelle
