Hiya,
I've been reading the posts about ANXIETY and I just wondered if someone could give me their opinion on what to do about it.
I've had it extremely bad now for several months, infact so bad that i've even left work and stopped going out by myself.
I don't know what's caused it because I never used to give a damn about anything and now it's like i'm just thinking constantly, so much so that I don't even know what I am thinking about.
My doctor put me on a course of anti-depressents but I never took them because I don't really want to become addicted to them and I would rather try beat it myself.
I'm sick of all these negative thoughts!! someone help!
Regards,
Laurielle

I think we are all looking for the answer to your questions. So far the best thing you can do is expose yourself to the things that scare you over and over again and prove to yourself that fear has no power over you. The worst thing you could do would be to start avoiding things like work or going out. Your world gets smaller and smaller that way, and eventually you will become more and more scared. It's a vicous cycle.
As for the meds, if they help some people then that person should not be scared of taking it or ashamed. Sometimes you just need a little help and then when you are stronger you can go off them. Good luck and happy holidays :)

I was scared to take anti depressants before also.I finaly gave in though and lt me tell ya when they started working ,which can take several weeks,it changed everything for the better.Of course not all of them work for every person, but I believe they do help most. There is also benzo's (klonopin, xanax, ativan) which can be tken on a as needed basis most doctors would rather have you taking an anti depressant though.I am no longer on any meds but as long as you wean off ,when your ready, the withdrawls can be very minimal and if your keeping busy you may not even notice them.I think the best way to start though is to get with a therapist first see how that goes without any meds first. Also books about anxiety
good luck

Did your anxiety ever get you to the point where you had difficulty working and going out? Medications aside, was it also just pure will power that keeps you going everday? It seriously seems like my mind just decides when I want to be happy and when it's time to be anxious and/or depressed. I think the depression can be even worse than the anxiety. I get very down on myself when i get depressed and it feeds into everything even more. I feel like my mind is my own worse enemy.
