View Full Version : somebody help please! Is this just anxiety??

I have been having a tightening or clenching feeling in my lower chest area right under my left breast for about five days now off and on. It is a fleeting thing, and lasts only about 3 to 5 seconds. I do have mitral valve prolaspe and have been to my cardiologist to check it out. They said my test was ok, and it is probably anxiety. The only thing is I have never had this symptom before, although I have had many others that I attribute to anxiety.

Does anyone else have this?? Please help! I am afraid I am having a heart attack or something like that!

It's probably extra holiday stress. Have you tried taking an antacid? That helps me sometimes. Also, if you think it's your heart, you could take an aspirin to thin your blood. Try taking long, deep, slow, even breaths in and out. This will help calm you down and hopefully release that tension in your chest. I hope you feel better soon.

I have the sensation and pain you are describing most of the time. Sometimes it's really painful. It's very unsettling, but SRMOM is right. Try the antacid or the aspirin. Holidays can add a lot of stress and stress will do weird things to you! Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. I still have the symptoms, but now I am wondering if it isn't something in my ribs, instead of my heart. who knows. i just wish it would go away!! :)

Hi: I used to get this all the time. Come to think of it I do when I get real up tight. It is just a build up of pressure that I used to put on myself. Went to the hospital and had it checked out as thought I was having a heart attack. Thankfully it does go away. Have a nice Holiday Season.

Connie,

Thanks for your reply. I am hoping mine is nothing also, as I have had it off and on for over a week now. I am under extreme anxiety on a daily basis, so that could be it. I just got engaged yesterday too, so add a whole other side of anxiety in planning a wedding!

Thanks again, and take care, Melissa
