I have had braces for three years. One of the bands was recently replaced. Now the gums around the tooth are very sore and there is a bad odor coming from under the band. The band seems to be securely cemented so I can't imagine how food is trapped. I have been scrubbing and flossing constantly. If it is an infection from irritation I suppose it will clear up. I'm afraid it is trapped food beacause that would decay the tooth. Does anyone know what would be causing this?

If there is a smell from where your band came off..that is a sign of an infection. You need to go back to your Ortho!
