I have to have a c section in 5 months. I am scared because I have huge fibroids. I have done plently of reading and I don't want to be pushed into menopause. When it happens natually fine, I'll deal with it.

I am told I may not have a choice because I could bleed to death on the table because of the fibroids.

I guess I am confused why so many people here are happy to have this procedure done. To me it's taking away out youthfulness and sexuality.

I just cant see myself having to take hormones are wearing a patch like my mother or grandmother.

I'm 29 and I'm not feeling very sexy or youthful due to loads of pain and fevers. If my doc recommends a hysterectomy, I'm probably going to be on board for that. If I can get healthy, it will do loads for my quality of life. Not having my reproductive organs? Small price to pay. I have 2 daughters and I would LOVE to enjoy my marriage and children without being sick more often than not. THAT would make me feel ten years younger!

Valo, I'm confused by your question. You say you're having a c-section in 5 months. What exactly does this have to do with you having a hysterectomy? Are they saying that your uterus may have to come out after they've delivered your baby?

As for going into menopause after a hysterectomy, there is only a very small chance of that happening if you are under 45. As long as they leave your ovaries, you will be fine. And ovaries aren't removed unless there is something specifically wrong with them, and fibroids has nothing to do with them. Are they saying they're going to take out your ovaries? This just doesn't make sense to me. Could you explain more?

Well I am not sure. I have a couple fibroids, one they tell me is about the size of a baseball and growing. I cannot deliver vaginaly because the one fibroid is sitting to low and close to the cervix.
I am told that it's not uncommon to go ahead and do a hysterectomy while they are in there because of the fibroids, mainly due to complications and the excessive bleeding during the procedure.

I have had doctors for years begging me to get a hysterectomy. yes I do bleed badly each month, but I really don't have any pain with them.
I am glad I refused because otherwise I could have never had this baby.

But I don't want to deal with hormone patches or pills, I don't want to have to go through an early menopause.
