What I CAN tell you is MY experience. I have successfully won soc sec disability claims 3 times (went back to work 2x). The latest time was: 1) Applied in August; 2) Found out I had been approved in October only because I called the office to check. To this date I have received NO PAPER stating I was approved; 3) the case was sent to quality control--and came back (still approved) in November. November 28th they sent my claim to the payment processing center; 4) NO ONE can tell me anything (except Jan- Feb) about when my pmts and backpmt will come through.

I cannot even begin to imagine how much further delayed the process might be if I moved out of state--because this would change the payments! Payments DO vary from state to state!

As far "them" "checking you out", I have no idea what that means. This has never happened to me, or any of my shelter clients who HAVE moved across country. The only result was a delay in processing benefits!

Your lawyer has his money so of course he isn't concerned! But you should have gotten your check at the same time he did. You may have to call several times, but you need to get hold of a supervisor at SS to do a trace. And don't let the regular workers tell you they can help...ask for their supervisor. I don't know what else to tell you other than if you get no satisfaction, I think you should call your state representative. Or write to your US senator. Then, maybe, a talk with a newspaper reporter about how the atty got paid but you didn't. They would just love that.

Good luck and I hope you will let us know.

Carol

I don't know if this would help or not. When I filed for SSD I got a letter with a claim number and can check the status online. Mine is still in appeals so it doesn't say anything and I don't know how much information is available once it's approved. Just thought I'd add this as my two cents and perhaps it will help.
Good luck! and Merry Christmas

Hi. I have been on social security twice. The first time I did the whole thing myself without an attorney and was overwhelmed, being denied at first etc. The second time I used an attorney. It was approved in about 4 months I guess. It was approved the first time without any denials. I ended up getting a huge check from social security directly. Then a few days later I got the letter stating how the decisions was reached. The attorneys fees were sent directly to the attorneys office. So it seemed fairly straight forward. I got my money the attorney got his money. I know its difficult dealing with social security at times getting information. Good luck.

Everyone here has said just about all that I would say. I filed on my own many yrs. ago and got it the first time around. I went back to work and now, 10 yrs later am having to file again. There is a lot of info. on Soc. Sec. website and also on the "disability" board. You might want to check them out as well.

Good luck,
Lorie

The first time I filed I was denied, I got an attorney and within a couple months I was approved, as a matter of fact I got my approval back in September of this year... my whole process only took maybe 5 months...and I never had to go before a judge....After approval I got a award letter in the mail, from the Social Security Office, they sent me a check for the whole amount and I had to pay my attorney his fees out of it.

Good Luck!
