Hi everyone,

I have been having occasional vulvar pain the last couple of weeks. In the book I am reading called "It's My Ovaries, Stupid!" the author says that vulvar pain is fairly common when we enter peri and our ovaries start to get out of whack. Does anyone else get this? It's very uncomfortable and I hope it will be a passing symptom...

Also, I have lost weight and muscle since I started in perimenopause. I still eat just as much but I don't gain any weight. I keep thinking that this won't last, but my doctor's assistant thinks it may. Anyone else losing weight instead of gaining?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas Lynn,
I lost 20 lbs when I started all this mess! I think mostly it was due to the anxiety of the crazy symptoms going on that no one could explain to me. I've since gotten back to my normal weight. But if you are still eating normally, it may be worth having your thyroid checked, as sometimes the symptoms of menopause & thryroid are very similar.
Had Vulvar pain, too. All part of the hormone drop. Loss of estrogen causes thinning of the vaginal & surrounding tissues, as well as drying. I had to go on premarin vaginal cream for this, as it's the only thing that helped at all.
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

Yep, actually, I'm having vulvar pain and cervix pain right now. Feels like Im gonna get my period, but who knows, had this on and off and haven't had a period in the last 3 months. I lost like 25lbs. in 3 months when i went into peri, now i gained and more back. Yikes  You might want to check your thyroid to see if it's too fast and that's why u can't gain weight, but it could just be your metabolism with anxiety that you're not gaining weight. Usually, if the thyroid is hyper, you would have other symptoms such as rapid heart beat, tremors, etc.

Have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Hellas and Andrea,

Thank you sooooo much for your responses! At least I know that the weight loss and vulvar pain are fairly common symptoms as we head into peri.

I had another really bad night--I only got about three hours of sleep, and my mom and I have to cook Christmas dinner for everyone! I cooked the turkey yesterday, but the mashed potatoes are everyone's favorite and the hardest part! I pray that I will start to feel a little better soon, as I don't want mom to have to do it all.

I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas day, and thanks again for your kind support!!

Lynn
