A friend of mine had root canal done 3 years ago and then had a crown with a post in it put on. Now the crown has fallen out (post and all). There was a little bit a tooth left and now that has also fallen out. The question that she has is does she need to get the roots taken out before she can get a partial?(there are 2 other teeth next to this one that fell out years ago.) She is deathly afraid of going to the oral surgeon and having to have the roots surgically removed. Is there way to get around her having to go through that procedure without any long term effects to her health? Thank you in advance.

Being a dental assistant, I can almost guarantee that your friend can get something that is called a "flipper" (small denture) or a partial w/ out having to go back to taking the roots out. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thank you for your help. I apprectiate it greatly. She has now told me that possibly part of the old crown might be left in her gum-line. I have a feeling that either way she is going to have to get that part of the tooth taken out.
Thanks again.
