View Full Version : Zyprexa & dementia

I have an issue with my mother and zyprexa. Initially (almost 3 years ago), my mother was diagnosed with AD and prescribed zyprexa on my sister's insistence that my mother was violent. She has been on it for 1 1/2 years.

I have recently been given conservatorship over my mother and very recently my mother's 24 caregiver notified me that my mother requested to not be given the zyprexa. Both the caregiver and I do not believe she has alzheimer's. We also both believe, that while she is aged and has memory problems, she is 80, she does possess the capacity to make such a request.

What are my rights as well as my mother's regarding such a prescription by MDs for AD/dementia, when in fact Zyprexa has no FDA approval as a drug for dementia.
