Happy Holidays!

I have anxiety, but haven't ever had breathing problems before until I went to go visit the family for the the holidays and...surprise...couldn't breathe. It has come and gone for a few days and feels like my throat is closing. It lasts for as long as I think about it and goes away if I'm distracted. So my question is...would a short-term medication like xanax help something like this or make it worse? I have some and am thinking about taking one, but I know those things slow down your system and I'm afraid that it will make the breathing symptoms worse. Anybody tried it?

they will help you, I get the same thing , along with the pill phobia. It feels like you cant breathe cause the muscles get tight, the pill will relax you.

Abenzo would for sure help dont worry about it making your breathing worse that will not happen your breathing problems are due to your anxiety and benzo's stop the anxiety.Anytime I have taken any type of benzo all my anxiety symptoms dissapeared and I get a huge grocery list of symptoms sometimes

Thanks for the advice...I'm not fond of drugs and HATE taking them, but it's good to know that a xanax could help if it gets to bad.

benzos will help with your anxiety but my throat closed up even after i took them. the trouble is is that they help too well and before you know it, you are taking them constantly. i am totally addicted to ativan and have taken it for 7 years. i am currently going through hell tapering off so if you feel you can do without any xanax etc. i suggest you stay away. taking one pill evey once in awhile is okay, though. it beats going to the ER
