Hi guys, Long post ahead. Pls bear with me.

I have been reading alot about this irritating illness (Dandruff) that causes lots of us to lose our self esteem and confidence. Since i had dandruff a year back, i have been trying out alot of solutions such as Head and Shoulders shampoo and other medicated shampoo from my derm. However its been not much of a use. Sadly, in the past few months or so, i realised gradual loss of hair during shampooing and combing and was rather concerned. I approached my local derm and was rather disappointed as he didnt believed that at my age (22 years old) i would experience hair loss. Thus to put me away and try get me back to normal conditions, i was prescribed with Minoxidil 5%.

After a few weeks of use, im starting to get rather suspicious of whether this minoxidil is making my dandruff worse as the flaking gets into a severe stage whenever i comb through my hair. Thus i stopped using it for the moment as no improvement seen from the use. Then one day, i came across a post by one of the forumers who claimed to use Listerine to deal with the itching scalp and to shampoo on alternate days to reduce removal of oils from scalp thus leading to dandruff.

Thus i need to verify if the shampooing freq gets lesser, will the dandruff condition improve or would the oil levels in the scalp and dandruff present in the hair make things worse? Any people tried that before and hows your results?

My Results.
I used to wash my hair daily and With lesser washing of hair with my mineral shampoo suitable for daily washing, my scalp kindof got more oily and perhaps have a weird buildup that is inherent when i scratch my scalp slightly. Secondly, i realise that from this buildup there is a kindof smell (greasy smell) coming from it. Thus i also feel that the dandruff condition kindof improved a bit, lesser residues and flakes seen though.
So the question is. Should i carry on the routine to wash hair once every 2 days or should resume to once a day washing? and also wats this buildup? How to remove it?

Thanks guys for your patience.
May our Xmas wishes come through (Mine was to get my hair problems and studies sorted out)

Best Regards

You might be chemically sensitive to the shampoos you are using. Sodium laureth sulfate is an abrasive cleanser and is in most shampoos. Cocamides are abrasive too. Listerine also has strong chemicals. Try switching to a chemical free line like Aubrey Organics at the health store. To get the mucky stuff off the scalp try a tablespoon of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar in a liter of water as a final rinse. It will clean and soothe the scalp without stripping the essential oils from it. It will make the hair soft & shiny too.

MSM capsules taken daily will strength hair, and make it shiny. You can also open a capsule and mix it into the palm of your hand with the shampoo and apply to scalp. MSM is organic odourless sulphur (methyl-sulphonyl-methane) and is the most abundant mineral in our body and needs to be replenished every day through sulphur containing foods like garlic, onions, eggs. Hair needs sulphur to stay strong. Cook with garlic more too, this will nourish your hair.

Hi Gort, Thanks for replying. Been waiting so anxiously for some response. However i do have a few questions as im not based in the USA, and my area does not seem to have this unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, any other subsitutes i can use like lemon since its also acidic? Thanks again for shedding some light.
cheers, Happy New Year
