awww I deffinitly know how ya feel, been there so many times.Anxiety/stress can cause dizzy, lightheaded spells I have had them many times.Do you take any meds for anxiety? Some times for me that has been the only thing to help rid of the physical symptoms. Also try and make sure you are breathing properly hyperventilation can cause dizziness too.

An ear infection or anxiety can cause dizziness

Most of the things you descibe are due to hyperventilation. Please google it.
Dizziness, shortness of breath, unreality, numbness and tingling.
All of this is caused by rapid and shallow breathing.
I know you are in an acute phase; but pls. believe that alot of your symptoms are due to the way you breathe. Really!

I'm dealing with the same stuff you are. About every few months i will have a vertigo attack where the room will spin for a few seconds then stop. It usually ends up scaring the you know what out of me which then turns into a bad anxiety attack. The time between the vertigo attacks is usually spent worrying about having one which causes me to be off-balance when i walk and have vision disturbances where i will get the sensation that something moves for a brief second when it really isn't. You might want to check out Inner Ear Disorders as a cause for your vertigo. I've heard people talk about dizziness as a symptom of anxiety but not vertigo. I've been looking into an inner ear problem as a cause of my vertigo but my symptoms dont seem to match any of them exactly, so im hoping that it really is just anxiety. The strange thing is that the vertigo started happening after i started having anxiety attacks. So be strong and hang in there, you are not alone. BTW how long does your vertigo attack last?

I havent had vertigo many times in my life but I have a few.The first time was when I was having heavy anxiety im talking an entire year of 24/7 anxiety.I remember I was sitting and suddenly it was like the room turned upside down and back again.Someone at that time also sugessted an inner infection to me,but I had that checked and my ears were fine.My doctor at the time couldnt find any other reason for it happening or any of the other numerous things I was complaning of.........so thats when I was told anxiety/stress was the cause of the vertigo.I know it seems hard to believe though I have had so many scarey things happen to me physically (as have many others here) that makes us think it isnt possible for it to be just anxiety, but alot of times it truely is.I dont know if you have had your ears checked yet or not,but if not id try that and have your blood preassure checked there is a condition (sorry forgot the name) that can cause one to have vertigo or dizziness upon sitting or standing. So have your doctor check your blood preassure as you stand and as you sit back down.

My attack lasted just a few minutes, but then thats all I can think about for days,I get up and walk and its like I focus on it,, Then I stay off balanced!
It feels like I am walking in a daze lately,, I can't concentrate, on anything other than "whats wrong with me) The doctor did blood tests, ekg, chest ekrays, said I was perfectly healthy!! Said there was really no reason to have MRI or catscan done. I want to trust him,, but I guess its all a part of the gad and pd huh? Always thinking the worst!! Well I have my first therapists appt, tomorrow so maybe thats a start! Thank you all for your replys... wish you all the BEST!!

Hi stillhopefull,
I noticed that I never said that I suffer from these same kind of anxiety symptoms. Even though I am sure they are a by-product of hyperventilation (and which I know how to help myself), I get shortness of breath and vertigo feelings almost daily!
The question I'm trying to answer is: is it my thoughts that are causing me to hyperventilate? Or maybe I physically can't help myself, meaning some kind of disease.
Sorry I was so quick to say what you might be suffering from; it was just a defensive remark from a fellow sufferer.
Good luck tomorrow!

hi, and i just found this board ....again.... and wanted to tell you that i to have vertigo. The room spinning, very different from just (not to belittle dizzy) dizzy, kind of vertigo. I am not plaged with it for a few weeks, but there's times when im getting up from bed, or turning over in bed that i go for 'the spin!" It's awful, and i have gone in 3x now to have them find something in my ears. I do think it's inner ear, but why cant they find it i dont know.. They said a couple years ago that i have 'positional vertigo' but since being diagnosed with gad,(as well as ocd and others  they dont seem to want to do anything more about it. They now say i have a 'perceptional hearing' problem. I dont know, i just think that with the real 'spin' there is something more to it. There is lots of info in the "inner ear disorder" section of the healthboards here. Anyway, i feel you pain. It's awful to have both causse ya just feel like a bit crazy. (well for me a lot crazy) Best of luck on youre therapy... It does me good ;)
