Every time I have my blood pressure checked I'm told I will live a long time but...is there such a thing as too low blood pressure? My blood pressure is usually 100/60 but lately it has been 110/47. Doesn't this also create a problem? Is there anything I should do or watch for? I gave blood once and passed out right afterward...could this have been the reason? Is there anything anyone can do to raise blood pressure? What causes it to be so low? Thank you all so much for ANY advice!

No symptoms, then not too low. You're damn lucky. Anyone might pass out after giving blood.

Unless you are having blackouts or dizzyness you should be fine. I know when im sitting and stand up super fast i have to lower my head to my knees or i'd blackout.(postural hypotension) Anyway you wont have to worry about a Stroke with your low Blood pressure!

I was told those very same words by many doctors for several years. DON'T believe it! Low blood pressure is caused by hypothyroidism. I recently discovered that over a prolonged period of years, it will enlarge the heart. What it actually means is that the heat muscle isn't as strong as it should be (the medical field calls this Low Cardiac Output because you probably have insufficient T3 thyroid hormone available to properly regulate cardio- vascular funtion. Taking thyroid hormone replacement (a T3/T4 combination) will correct both low and high blood pressure problems. Have your doctor (or do it yourself if you have a BP monitor) take two readings. Once sitting down and then immediately after standing up. If your blood pressure drops when you stand, (it should go up) my diagnosis is correct (they call this orthostatic hypotension). If you were to ask most physicians if what I'm telling you is true, they will probably tell you I don't know what I'm talking about.
Do some research on the Internet about hypothyroidism and see if you have other symptoms that you can relate to (you'll have to compare with many sources because hypothyroid symptoms can be almost anything that isn't infectuous related).

it doesn't hurt to have your thyroid checked.. I agree.. however I have low blood pressure and have had my thyroid checked on more than one occassion and it is normal.. I just live with it and eat salty foods when it gets too low..

Thanks so much for your responses. I do remember on at least two occasions having my thyroid checked over the past 25 years. Nothing ever came up. But from reading other boards, I wonder. I quit smoking 17 months ago and someone on that board said this sometimes shows up after quitting (especially with the anxiety I've had lately!!). And that's yet another board!! Anyway, I'll monitor it....and thanks again. :D

I think one of the symptoms of adrenal exhaustion is low blood pressure.
