Hi all,
Usually I mostly post on the back problems board but sometimes on here. In late January I am going fo major back surgery. I have been doing really good with losing weight and am happy that my surgery is finally here so that I can start to feel better but at the same time I'm dissapointed because I will not be able to work out and continue to be successful with my weight loss. I have been looking for a way to lose the extra weight for so long and it seems as though I have, even throughout my back problems. My questions is after surgery and for the months to come throughout recovery, what can I do to ensure that I do not gain weight and possibly even continue to loose more? I am young, 24, and in need of guidance. Please offer any advice that you can. Thanks in advacne. ;)

Hey Kristy - I am 5 weeks post-op from fusion, laminectomy and discectomy with titanium cages and I have had good luck with plain old walking...I have lost 2 pounds in 3 weeks. I walk a lot on the treadmill - got an MP3 player and that helps me work into a sweat. I'm up to 4 miles a day (I break it up into 2 sessions). I started walking at the 2 week post-op mark . I track my progress on a running website that has a log and that keeps it interesting for me. BTW, If you have been able to exercise regularly, you'll be in much better shape to come around after surgery - the docs were amazed at how well I did in the hospital, because my first day after was pretty bad. Good luck and see you on the back problem boards!
