My son is potty trained and has just started to use the big toilet.
Should I sit him on or let him stand when he wants to wee?
When he does his poo on the big toilet he also wees at the same time.
He has two older sisters and he wants to sit down to wee like they do.

Hi, I let my son to sit on the toilet when he wants to wee as well as when he goes poo. My dh even at his age sits when he goes #1 or #2 and I actually don't have to wash around the toiled every time they go in there because they don't miss if they sit down. Just make sure that in public places teach your son to do #1 standing because of germs. That is what I did. I don't think it is embarasing or it dosn't make them girls if they sit . . . :)
Thank you Angie for answering my query.
I am going to sit him on rather than let him stand.
I agree with what you say, it is impossible to miss when sitting down. I had not thought of that!
After a few months I will teach him how to stand and wee but I would prefer him to sit down at home then there will be no accidents.
My worry was that sitting down to wee is a girly thing but you have reassured me somewhat
I will ask my dh to consider sitting down in future because I should not have to clean the toilet every time he wees. It is splashes from the water rather than bad aim.

I would let him stand, by that is just the way my kids do it when they use the toilet. And when I let them do this I noticed I am making head way on the potty training l;ately!! I am sooo excited that they are staying drier longer now than ever before, and actually peeing in the toilet more!!! I thought this day would never come, lol, but we are getting there slowly but surely. I feel like writing a book for parents entitled the "The Trials and Tribulations of Potty Training," sort of like a vent/learning type book where I endure the frustration and impatience of potty training my kids, lol. I am sure every p[arent can understand that, its a long journey. Sorry to get off topic, but sitting or standing is no problem, as long as they are on their way to being fully potty trained!
I tried standing him up but he refuses to do so. He has seen his sisters use the toilet and he trys to imitate them.
The first time I sat him on was when he wanted a poo. He did his wee wee at the same time and was very pleased with himself.
My husband says he should stand but I would prefer to sit him on for the time being. After about 6 months I will try standing him up.
My sister has got 3 boys and she sat them on at first but now they stand up.
When they sat on they could not miss and wee on the floor but now she often finds the floor wet after they started standing up.

My oldest was potty trained at 3 and I read that sometimes they don't know they will have a BM or don't communicate that to you, so it's best to have them sit down for #1. Around 4 years old he became more interested in standing. He goes back and forth but mostly sits, and he's 5. I wouldn't worry about it being a girl thing to sit. It's hard for little guys to reach sometimes so it's best to let them sit down until they're ready to stand up. Good luck!
Hi, My son is not tall enough to stand up to wee in the toilet which is one of the reasons I prefer to sit him on the toilet when he wants to wee.
He always used to sit on his potty to poop and wee so he would be somewhat confused if I tried to make him wee standing up.
He now knows he can stand up to wee but he always wants to sit like his sisters do.
My dh said he used to sit until he was about 7.

DS says to me "no poop in the tubby" "no poop in the pool", so when he's in the tub, I ask him if he needs to get out and go potty and I'll put him on the potty chair. He sits for awhile, I put on his diaper and a few minutes later he poops. Then I'll smell it and ask, did you poop? And he fibs and says me no poop. Or I'll hear a voice from the other room saying, Mommy come change my diaper. I pooped. He's 2 1/2.
