Hi Marcia: I was wondering about you over the holidays and haven't gotten a post off to you. What's the latest with your Gabitril? Are you still taking it and did you bring it up with your doctor? I've wondered about that and if anyone else on the boards is taking Gabitril for nerve pain. Let me know where things stand with you.

thanks for your concern.i am sorry to say that I am still on it and really am having kind of a hard time with this issue, really.despite the fatc that i HAD wanted to go off it originally when I was first switched from neurontin to it when I started at my pm about a almost two years ago just because of the very extreme tiredness it was causing, they told me to try and stick with it and just take most of it at night.well,as soon as i did that,I was getting the absolute best sleep ever.honestly, this stuff has worked better than any sleep aid I have ever tried, even ambien whcih I thought WAS the best ever, til I started using the gabitril at night and only taking one half a pill in the morning.normally, because of my kidneys and the huge amount of water I drink during the day just to keep things flushed,i would end up(and still do) having to get up two times during the night EVERY night, like clockwork, despite trying not to drink any or very little a few hours before bed,but I always had one heck of a time just getting back to sleep each time.but with the gabitril, god,i go to sleep wonderfully and when I need to go to the bathroom those tqo times,I can fall right back to sleep again, with no problem at all.
so this is what I am dealing with right now ya know?to even find anything that works this great for me and my sleep issues is like just miraculous in itself, and the thought of losing that, well, you can see my plight.I know i have not ever had any sort of a siezure before even while having been on this stuff now for over a year and a half now(two years in feb)i DO have to sit down with my NP or hopefully my actual PM and fully discuss all of this. Its like I know going off of it would probably be in my best interest, but wow, what a trade off you know?It is one of those risk vs quality of life issues.i know alot of us are on meds that are helping but hurting at the same time, and right now,I really do not know just what in the hell to do here.if I was not getting the wonderful sleep benefit from this,i would have demanded I go off the second you told me about that FDA warning.i am just wondering the circumstances surrounding the actual siezures occuring in the patients that had that reaction.i have attempted some research on this and cannot(of course) find that type of info on it so I could really truely know just what my real risks are to continue to keep taking it.This all just sucks. If you can find any info on that particular part of the issue, please let me know.i just cannot seem to actually locate what I really really need to be able to actually make the best informed decision on it.Aren't meds just sooo much fun??i DO really appreciate your telling me about all this really director,if it weren't for you,no one else ever bothered to even mention it to me.go figure.even my wallgreens did not have that fda sheet that you were given at your pm appt that day?and had no clue about the siezure risks either.she even looked it up for me when I was there and there was nothing there that even indicated that any sort of warning had been placed on this med.kinda makes ya wonder just how bad some of the other meds we are taking daily are ya know what i mean?scarey world we live in.Thanks again director,I WILL let you know the lateast as it happens,K?marcia
