My son will be 4 on march 1, and he only weighs 32#. Is thst ok? The dr doesn't seem to be to worried about it, but I am. He has nothing for an appetite on some days and on others I can't get him to quit eatting. Most of the time all he will eat is meat though. He wont touch veggies, breads,or fruits. He very rarely even will eat candy. And dairy- forget about that. I do give him a vitamin everyday, but I am still worried. His color always looks pale and his ribs are sticking out. Dr. says he's fine and doesn't think there is any need for tests or anything. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to eat more?

If the dr is not concerned. has he always been low in weight? I have a friend who's daughter just tuned 5 and she is only 30 lbs and about 38 inches tall. She is not much bigger than my 2 year old.

My daughter is 5 and weighs 37 pounds. I think what you need to consider is where his height and weight fall on the growth chart. If his height is in the 75th and his weight is the 15th, I'd be switching to whole milk and getting a second opinion!

I just read the last part of your post, sorry. My daughter is the opposite, she won't eat meat -- except pork. Dairy is on and off for her. She's not big into sweets except candy, which I won't let her have often.
It is normal for kids around 4 to 6 to be at their thinest. My older daughter was in the 75th % for height and the 50th for weight at 5 and looked super thin. But I read that they are supposed to thin out around that age. Kids that don't are more likely to be overweight as adults.
So, just look at his percentiles like I said previously. That may help set your mind at ease.
As far as getting him to eat more, does he like milkshakes? How about that pediacare stuff? I know you said he won't eat veggies or fruit, but how about something like spaghetti sauce or meatloaf where you can sneak shredded veggies in. Does he not eat cheese at all? What about peanut butter or yogurt? You'd think meat would be good, in balance of course. Maybe cook him some bacon, it's fattening ;P

Alot of kids are just naturally thin for their age, just like some are shorter than others. I have a newphew that is almost 5 and weighs 36 pounds, thin genes run in his family. Unless he isn't losing weight, or having other health problems I would try not to worry too much about it. I know, easier said than done, hang in there!
