Hi Everyone,
Per my doctor, I have to get one of the upper incisors pulled out. I do not prefer it but that seems to be the way to go. (I had been to 5 different doctors till now).
If the tooth is pulled out, what happens to the root?
If I have to go for partial denture, how does it fit in my mouth? How often does it have to be adjusted?
Thanks in advance..

hey.. when you get the teeth pulled the root will be pulled as well so there is no remants of the tooth. I'm not sure about the denture though, you'd have to ask your dentist what type he would be giving you. Chances are it's one you just place in your mouth like whole dentures.

AGREE! Partials are a pain! They are so heavy and confining,(metal) and make my mouth feel like it's in JAIL!! Ha Ha

Thanks Greg.. I do not like bridge since that means spoiling my adjacent teeth. I can't have any implants since there is not enough bone.
I am still trying to understand how partilas stay secured in my mouth. ..
Hey there,
A partial denture will vary from person to person based on what teeth the y need to have replaced and the anatomy of their mouth. So I cannot say what it would look like without seeing your mouth. However with only your centrals being pulled chances are it wont be too complicated. It needs to be properly maintained and cleaned once a day.
Some people dont mind them but some find them a pain in the butt. You will have to find out for yourself. Other options are a bridge or implants. These are more expensive but require MUCH less attention than a partial denture. Talk to your dentist about other options. Hope that helps

Kusum,
My one tooth partials (that I discussed in another thread) had a little
claw type attachment that wrapped about half way around each
tooth. You could do a google image search on nesbit partials and I
believe it would show you a picture.
However, if you are missing an incisor, that is one of the front teeth
isn't it? One on the other side of the two front teeth?
For that type of space, since it is so obvious, probably a bridge will
be recommended for you, if not an implant.
Due to perio problems, I lost incisor # 7 and while waiting for my new
upper partial to be completed, I had a little one tooth 'flipper'. It did
not have any metal on it, and was mainly for cosmetic purposes.
However, some flippers are made with metal clasps, and are meant to be more
permanent. An image search may be done on flipper denture and it will show
you a picture.
They are much more fragile that a normal partial, but my husband knows a fellow who has had a flipper for years and years...that guy simple chooses not to eat with it in, and discreetly removes it at meals.
I respectfully disagree with those who think partials are a pain.
For some of us who are *not* candidates for implants or bridges, partials
are a great thing!!
Personally, mine are very comfortable and I hardly know they are there.
Best wishes,
~Debbie~
