Does anyone know what can be done to fix a hormonal imbalance? I used to get a my period regularly until about 8 or 9 months ago, a time where I was very stressed out...and I don't think my body has quite recovered. My period occurred randomly for a while and since August I have only gotten my period twice and one of the times it only lasted about an hour. I've also experienced a lot of moodiness...what my boyfriend described as what seemed to be "a month of PMS." I'm no longer experiencing this PMS state, but I'm struggling with my skin, which has been breaking out to no end. It is so frustrating (sigh)I am in my early 20s so I can only think that acne at this age is due to hormones. How do I help my hormones get back on track? Does anyone know? I already eat a balanced diet and excercise a lot. Thank you for any advice you can give.

You shoul dprobably first get a diagnosis to find out why your period comes so infrequently. It could be more than a hormonal imbalance. It could be PCOS or you could have a thyroid problem. Having a thyroid problem will certainly throw your hormones out of whack, but you would want to treat the thyroid problem too. Having said all of that, I can think of two options. You can go oin BCPs, which is probably what any DR is going to tell you. I personally HATED being on the pill, but maybe it will work for you. The second thing is to look into taking Vitex/ Chaste Tree Berry. It is an herb and it does wonders for a gril's cycle. Do some research on it and see if it sounds like it's for you. Best of luck!

I definitely agree that you should get yourself checked out by a physician before assuming it is merely a hormonal imbalance caused by stress. It could be that but there are a lot of other things that your symptoms could be signs of... For example, my boss' daughter has been having irregular periods for about a year and has also been having a ton of breakouts etc... (she is also in her early 20's) She finally saw a doctor about and this week was just diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will go to the doctor then. I really don't want to go on any birth control pills, but I will look into the vitex. Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate you both taking the time.
