yup, water...

I only drink about a cup or so of water a day... bad, right?
I'm trying to increase my intake to 64 oz. a day. It's not as easy as I thought it would be.
How long will it take till I stop feeling bloated and nasty?

PLEASE HELP! This is driving me crazy!

I've started to drink a lot more water than I've used to(still a very healthy amount)
You might feel bloated(I didn't) at first, but soon it will get better. Try not having a bunch of water at the same time. You could carry a bottle of water with you and drink a little at a time. Then you won't feel bloated as much or not at all.

I drink 3-5 liters per day of water. I have many water bottles on my desk at work, and I usually carry a big 1-liter bottle with me everywhere I go. I feel cleaner overall by drinking large amounts of water. I also don't drink anything with sugar in it. I have a cup of coffee in the mornings, and sometimes some green tea throughout the day.

ocurt,

Is there some physical reason why you are trying to drink 64 ounces of water a day? Or are you doing this because you've been reading the "experts" that we're all dying of thirst and we'd better all drink 64 ounces of water a day or some unspecified bad things will happen?

I mean, how has your life been up to now? Are you constipated? Do you drink fluids in some other form besides pure water (soup, coffee, fruit juice, etc)? Do you have any health problems because of drinking 63 or fewer ounces of water per day?

Some of us (meaning me!) do fine with drinking lots of fluids all day, and we feel thirsty and dehydrated if we go for several hours without drinking any. But I know lots of people who are in fine health without drinking much water. It is possible to get lots of fluids from our foods. If your body is objecting to drinking lots of water, then my suggestion is not to go crazy over it -- listen to your body. If you were fine up to now, and your body is objecting to vast amounts of unaccustomed water, then cut back on the water.

I didn't and still don't think a cupful of water (total from all sources) is sufficient to support human life.

I had to laugh -- just after I posted my two cents above, I received a bunch of jokes from a friend of mine. One of the jokes is supposedly from W.C. Fields:

"I never drink water because of the disgusting things that fish do in it."

rheanna,

My W.C.Fields current fave is:
"How is mankind going to survive now that the cost of living has gone up 2 DOLLARS A QUART?"

I think one cup of water is definitely too little. Hopefully you have been eating foods that have a high water content. Drinking lots of water throughout the day makes you feel full. Also you will have clearer, shinier skin and you will feel better. The human body is made up of a lot of water (I can't remember the percentage) so it is a good healthy idea to drink lots of it.

I don't understand how drinking water makes you feel "bloated and nasty"? Are you attempting to drink 64 oz. all at once? I easily drink a gallon throughout each and every day and bloating is never an issue. Frequent urination maybe, but that is to be expected. I also like to put fresh lemon in some of my water bottles. It's a great way to get Vitamin C, and provide flavor if you can't stand drinking plain old water.
