I just had Part 2 completed of my root canal. When I was paying the bill, I noticed they charged me $75 for each visit for nitrous oxide. I have no dental insurance, so I have to pay the bill myself. If I had known they were going to charge me $150 (for both visits), I definitely would have declined the nitrous oxide. I've gone my whole life without using it and when they offered it to me, I thought I'd try it out to see what it was like. At no time did anyone tell me they would charge me for it.
I feel ripped off and mislead. I am going to write a letter to the office manager and tell them I need to be refunded my money. But I am curious about the cost of the nitrous... they told me at the office that it's very expensive. But when I talked to a friend of mine, she said she's only charged $25 by her dentist. I'm wondering if this is a case of charging more for an item in order to get insurance to pay more... in that case, I'm subsidizing the whole stinking system. What is other people's experiences?
Thank you!
