Was wondering if anyone had this problem and treatment and if it helped or not....I have a back molar that is sensitive to anything hot, cold, etc...I have been to the dentist twice with it and an oral surgeon for a consult...The dentist took xrays, said the filling that was in it was fine(doesnt need a new filling) and doesnt need a root canal..The oral surgeon also said the xray looked fine...The dentist wants to paint some desensitizing stuff on it (u clean the tooth, dry it, paint it and use some type of light on it)...She said the only problem she sees is that some of the root is exposed up towards the gum...Will this work or should I just have the tooth extracted?
Thanks!

I would try the desensitizing stuff definitely. It only takes one tiny area of root exposure to make the tooth extra sensitive. I had a tooth like that and had to use special flouride toothpaste for awhile which eventually helped mineralize where the exposure was. That might be not enough for what you need. There's no sense getting the tooth pulled if you don't have to.

I, too, would try desensitizing.
Are you certain that having the tooth extracted is even an option?
I know my dentist would not pull a 'good' tooth.

Good luck!

HI
Thanks for the responses..I am going to try the desensitizing...She says they put a bonding composite on the root surface...I have an appt. Jan. 9th...I was just totally scared I might need a root canal, and I would rather be knocked out by the oral surgeon and have it extracted, then a root canal! lol
Nancy
