80 yr old aunt had surgery today. She was diagnosed 2 yrs ago but colon cancer, mass at end of colon. She went into denial and wouldn't have anything done. But she started having some pain and went to see surgeon. They removed a grapefruit size tumor, not in her liver, but prob in lymp nodes. We'll find out Monday if she has to have chemo. I sure wish she had gone in 2 yrs ago.....she is in great health otherwise.

although no one ever responded to my post. here's an update. Aunt is doing very well. She may go home tomorrow. haven't received the report from lab yet on whether or not the cancer is in lymph nodes...that will mean chemo....but she's doing so well now, I am sure she can handle the chemo...

Glad your Aunt is feeling OK. That is a big surgery for anyone...nevermind someone of her age. Waiting for the pathology report feels like forever. I hope you get good news and she can avoid any chemo.

Good luck!

Hi, your aunt sounds like an amazing person and I wish her all the best. The good news is that it had not spread to more than 3 lymph nodes. In my husband's case, 11 out of 18 were involved and here he is, two and a half years later, doing very well. Your aunt's positive attitude together with your love and support will help her through this.

Take care,

She's taking the chemo pill Xeolda. Only been taking it for 1 week. So far, no side effects...not sure how long she'll have to take it...CT and PET scan showed spots by liver and lung..doc said could be inflamation....hope chemo pill takes care of that if it isn't
