I know it sounds so silly, but I'm honestly consider playing Dance Dance Revolution to be my workout. I put it on Standard and play in Workout mode. After 20-25 songs without a break, I'm totally soaked and gasping. I've been doing this every day for the past few days, and now I can't stand on my left leg because it's so achey from intense gameplay :D
If what the game says is correct, 20 songs on Standard (for me) burns about 300 calories. This probably isn't a lot in comparison to 2000 daily calories, but it sure feels like a lot when I can't walk afterwards.
Anyone else here have experience and/or success utilizing DDR as a form of working out?

No, but i'm considering it. I LOVE to dance! But I only have xbox, and I don't think DDR comes for XB. It sounds like a great way to burn calories and have fun. :) You could also gain alot of muscle doing that because its using muscles you don't usually use. Good Luck

There's a couple of DDR games out for XBox, though I don't know how recent they are. There's DDR Ultramix 1 and 2, I believe.

I just saw this post and had to comment! We recently got a ddr dance pad for our Xbox along with the games Ultramix 1 and Ultramix 2(I like 2 better). We actually got it for my 6 year old daughter, but now I'm addicted to it! This really is an awesome work out! I gained a little weight over the holidays and I've already lost 4.5 lbs in a weeks time and I know it's from playing those games. The only other thing I've done differently is I'm drinking more water and no soda. Now, I know some of that is likely water weight, but it definitely motivated me to keep on playing ddr. It took me about a day to really get used to it(at first it almost seemed impossible to keep up with all the arrows...but it didn't take long at all before I was doing really well). I'm so worried about watching the arrows and trying to get a good score...that I don't even think about it being "exercise". But, I can definitely tell I've had a good work out once I'm finished! It's also nice because if you go to "work out mode" it will keep track of cals burned. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I usually try to burn 350-400 cals a session.

I use DDR as exercise all the time. I have been since the first one came out on XBox- which has been years now. I love the 2nd one and just bought the 3rd one this week with my christmas gift cards. It is the best exercise ever for me. I am really good at it though because I had a lot of practice already. The better you get, the more calories you burn since you can dance correctly to the more fast paced songs. What sux is I have no one to talk to about my DDR hobby around where I live. No one has heard of it here so I bring it up to anyone that will listen. Plus I am 28 and not many of my friends are into all of the jumping this game requires because they feel it is bad on their back or they feel they are too old for that sort of thing. I think they are wrong and close minded about exercise!
I have another game on my X-Box called Yourself Fitness. It is a personal trainer named Maya that I work out with every other day. I love it. If you are interested, look it up and tell me what you think.

Hi! This DDR thing sounds perfect for me! I really, really want to get started with it, but don't know what to buy to do that. I don't have a Playstation 2 or an X-Box. I am a 54-year old soon to be grandma but am very young at heart. I would like to lose about 50 pounds and this sounds like the perfect way to get my exercise because I love dancing AND gaming which this seems to include both of.
However, I am more into Christian Contemporary Music (but the music doesn't have to be Christian). I just don't want anything too wild. Since I have never heard any of the music, what do you recommend I do? I do know there is now something out called "Dance Praise" ($50) which hooks up to the computer and has the dance pad too. But I am guessing that the quality might not be as good. I just don't know where to begin. Please HELP!

I am not sure, but I think I just read something saying that more and more companies are coming you with games such as DDR and other type of simulation games. I believe there are even some kickboxing type games coming out. I am with the above poster when it comes to not having a gaming console, athough I am 21. I do have a computer, obviously, and a DVD player. I hope that companies will focus some on the computer and dvd/tv market so that we wont be forced into having to buy an Xbox/Playstation in order to get the fun new work out games soon to be on the market..... I think its time for me to go do some amazon searching, lol
