View Full Version : Foods to Avoid and question about red wine

I've seen conflicting reports about which foods are best to avoid, so I thought I'd check with you guys and see if you have heard anything different. It's my understanding the following are high in lysine and best to consume:
soy (tofu)
cheeses
dairy products
beef and chicken
fish, tunafish (not shellfish)

To avoid:
citrus
chocolate
gelatin
whole grains and rices
nuts
caffeine
white flour

There are several that are somewhere in the middle but these seem to be the highs and lows.

I've also read that red wine can be both beneficial and cause outbreaks. I don't drink it but will start if it's beneficial, but can't seem to determine which it is.

Thanks for any help or information.

I too have heard about foods high in lysine and others being high in arginine, but since i've had type 2 herpes i have seen no difference in regards to my ob's. I have come across posters who have mentioned that chocolate gave them ob's. The only things which seem to affect my herpes ob's are lack of quality sleep, stress/anxiety. I pretty much each what i want, but i rarely eat junk food and i've always eaten a well balanced diet.

I recently posted about a couple of new things i had come across in regards to helping control herpes and that was pepermint and also red wine. The red wine apparently is helpful to dab on the ob's as it helps prevent passing them on and halts them in their growth and it's due to the "resveratrol" found in red wine, they never mentioned drinking it, sham huh!! :) Oh well, it is New Years Eve, so a glass or two tonight shouldn't do much harm. Happy New Year :)

Yea, darn it! Cause I hate red wine, i'm a white zinfendale type chick haha....

and I often wonder about all those foods and what not cause to be honest, I drink coffee everyday and never had an issue, I went to school at night for 2 years and ate fast food all the time at 11pm and still nothing popped up, now all the sudden I got herpes.

Jeez, what a freakin confusing thing this can be heh?
