View Full Version : Hair Growth......Non existent

I posted this question over a year ago (with a different name, that I've forgotten) only to receive a few responses from ppl who thought I was lying or from those making childlish statements.

Nevertheless, another year has come & gone & still my problem persists.
Quite simply.......my hair does not grow....not a lot, not a little, not at all. It has been 6 years now since I've had a haircut. Dec. 99 to be exact, right before Christmas (This is no joke)(& yeah I've saved a ton of money on haircuts)
Granted its not as thick as it was do to falling out, thats normal with age & heroditary patterned baldness of males in the family, but what is up with the non growth thing. It is the exact same length it was then.......it simply does not grow. It has become kind of a joke with friends, family & even coworkers that my hair does not grow yet no one seems to know why.
Has anyone else experienced this or can offer clues as to what's going on?
Sidenote: Theres a guy that is a friend of a friend who is experiencing the samething....he has shoulder length hair......last haircut.......14 years ago...stays the same length, thickness & everything)

Thanks in advance for any input.

Does your family have a history of no hair growth over a long period of time? That could be a common reason for your hair not growing at all, along with the thickness. Most people have a hair growth pattern that stops at a certain point, meaning if you're a female and want waist length you may not get it, since your hair is programmed to grow a certain length. I have tried to grow my hair to my ankles for a long time, but it just never happened for me, despite not cutting it, so I give up. Maybe someone else has a better response to this, so we can get some answers.

Sometimes people with heredetary baldness can experience shortened terminal length of the hair. How long is your hair right now and how much was cut off in December '99?

Tallcoolone,
Kentucky_miss nailed it. Our hair is programmed to grow to a certain length. Maybe that's why we never see women (or men) thrashing about on the ground with their legs tangled up in their hair. :D

Note to self:
That would be so fun to watch.

Interesting, I never knew our hair was programmed to only grow so long. I guess perhaps this could be the issue with me. My hair is shoulder length, been like that....since...well....the 80's.........lol....yes I'm one of those ppl.
As for it running in the family.....makes a little since as well. When my faher was alive, he had a regular "mans" cut, that would need trimmed at least once a month. My sisters it seems can go from having short hair to hair past their shoulders in just a few months, but thats as long as it gets. Mother on the other hand, her hair was once past her waist.
I thinking the programmed thing is believable though because now that you've mentioned it, my son has grown his hair to be shoulder length (all over though.....including the front which drives me insane..lol) & now it seems to have stopped growing....length wise anyhow....he still has to get it thinned out on occasion because it is so thick.
The fear I have now is that if I take the chance to cut my hair short.....the way my luck runs.....it will not grow back....& I'm one of those guys who look alot better with longhair & a dork with short hair.
Thanks anyway for the input for I have never heard of this theory...I've always figured I had something medically wrong with me.
