I know this may sound like a strange question, but really am wondering: What type of soaps are good to use to clean the oh so sensitive area of a women??? The gyno said to use nothing,,,, ugh... yuck! , but I really don't feel comfy with that! I used to use Ivory, and sometimes Summer's Eve sensitive skin, but just thought I'd ask y'all women to see what is best. Want to avoid getting infections from disrupting the natural ph balance in there......Thanks.

Listen to your doctor...wash the outside like normal...leave the inside alone.

plain old water is the best way.. but if you feel like you have to use something, I do like Summers Eve wash.

Just talked to my OB-GYN on this on December 1st and he also said just plain water. I agree.

No soap! Soap will ruin the delicate pH balance down there and increases the chances of having yeast infections etc.

No, not even Summer's Eve, any kind of soap is bad. A vagina has to be slightly "acidic" ("sour") to ward off bacteria and soap goes against that.

I could never go without using some kind of soap. I use Dial body wash. It's a liquid soap. If I use bar soaps they will irritate me down there but the liquid do not. I don't put any inside me just wash the outside and I never have any problems with infection.

Thank you for your replies.. I totally understand how soaps can desturbs the "acidic" levels and all, however I think I need to just wash with some sort of soap on the outside, NEVER on the inside, only water. I'm sure however that all the shampoos and conditioners and body washes that I also use, trickle down in there anyway. That is kinda hard to avoid. I just have to stick to my daily consumption of yogart or acidiophilious pills. Does anyone know if taking those supplements daily could do any harm?

I could never just use water................A mild soap or summer's eve (made especially for that area) for women is fine. Only on the outside, definately not on the inside. Definately never douche!

I use summer's eve wash which is especially made for that area. Just to be extra safe I use the sensitive skin kind. It is very mild and gentle. Before that I was using the dial antibacterial body wash down there, and when I had a yeast infection it burned terribly while washing with it. Summers eve wont make sore skin burn at all. I really like it. I think the rule of thumb for washing down there is to wash the external area only. In other words don't spread it apart and put soap in there.

Another thing that works good is baby shampoo. I had a yeast infection a few years ago and I was using bar soap at the time and my opthomologist recommended baby shampoo to wash my eyes with and I thought if I can get that in my eyes with no burning feeling then I could use it down there too and it worked great.

I used to use Summers Eve sensitive formula and it wasn't too great for my vagina... I would get vaginal infections over and over again... and I think summers eve was one of the culprits...
My gyno prefered i use a mild soap over summers eve... saying it greatly disturbs my 'flora' aka ph balance... I stick to unscented Dove soap and it seems to work very well. Remember... soap that is unscented and no colors.

You're the second person who has said that. I constantly get infections including Uti's. Im seriously thinking of using the dial also.
