It is a year tomorrow i took myself off to hospital with such a bad pain in my bum/rectum area and felt faint with the pain but am still no wiser to what is wrong.i have read a few other peoples post who have had anal skin tags etc. My whole life revolves around my butt and it is really really getting me down. I have had a camera up and down, they found nothing but an abnormally thickended perineum?? I go to my docs often because of the pain and she says all she can see is a very swollen inflamed perinuem with a spot on it??? and gives me antibiotics each time.
I take anti inflammortories everyday of my life, and live on an anestetic cream whcih totally numbs me down below. sometimes i have to just go to bed and lay totally still as i cant even walk where i am so swollen down there, i have to stay near a loo as if i dont go when i need to i will pooh myself, (bowel urgency) and can go many times a day or be constipated, ( this is down to my irritable bowel) but now i cannot have my regular smear test as i cannot be touched down there, i cannot even wipe myself after going to the loo, i scream when i pass water as it touches my bum?? and all because of this lump/spot thingy on my bum/perineum. could this be a simple wart/skin tag. do skin tags cause this terrbile pain where you cannot lead a normal life and swell up. I feel such an idiot as it is only a lump but it rules my whole life, it often bleeds but the surgeon said they could see no reason why i would bleed??? does anyone know if this could be ulcerative colitis or would they definitley have seen this on the colonoscopy?? I cannot beleive one year on and i am still in so much pain. I often feel very unwell and get hot, have joint pains and many other things but have beentold this if fibromyalgia. sorry to go on but i dont want to live like this, if is go see a surgeon they just touch you down there and dont listen when you say dont touch as it really really hurts, and if he decides to have a feel i then pooh myself and i cannot take the embarressment. please help

hello...excuse my ignorance...but are you male of female (when you said "smear" wasn't sure if you were talking about pap smear)? also, have you tried regular OTC items like prep h? also...have you had a second and maybe even a third opinion?

Vulvodynia? Levator syndrome?

Hello threethings, i am female. broccallie i looked up the 2 things you suggested ( thank you so much) and am not sure i can closely relate to either of them but i have not looked into them deeply enough yet, i will research them a bit more. The thing that hurts so much is the small lump on the perenium, dr says it is a spot???? but it swells so large the perenium starts to split open. then it will go down again, and so on. it also aches/hurts right over the cheek of my butt when it flares up. it hurts everysingle day of my life but i have learnt to adapt my life aroung it, i know if i do too much work/lifting walking shopping etc it will really badly flare up, so i have to dose up on anti inflamatries, pain killers and numbing cream. same with my monthly it flares up. i have never ever heard of anyone with similar to this. do skin tags and warts hurt like this.

Could it be a hemmorhoid?? I had one 3 years ago that I couldn't sit, I had to lean to the side because it would hurt SO bad. That IS a lump in the butt, it may have a blood clot in it, that's what would cause the pain. That can be easily taken care of by a proctologist in his office. Lifting, exercising, etc definitely will make it flare up. Is it bleeding at ALL? Mine bleed usually, and that is why I normally don't have the pain, because it releases the clot. But 3 years ago it wouldn't bleed and just got bigger and more painful. It would even hurt to turn over in bed!

hmm...yeah..i would get a second opinion. it might be something totally treatable. i doubt it's a wart because a wart would not go down and then inflame. have you tried any OTC stuff?

yes it does bleed really bright red occasionally. If it were piles would my dr not have noticed, she said it appears to be some sort of spot??? even she seems stumped on what it is. It is so painful it even wakes me up in the middle of the night throbing and stinging and i have to get up and numb my self up. i never ever have enough time to go to my dr but when i evetually do she is not sure what it is and says i may have to refer you to a surgeon. now that terrifies me.
I dont know what otc means so dont know if i have used them.

hehe....sorry...OTC = Over the Counter. like have you tried something like h-roid ointment / cream? or witch hazel? also...i would definitely go to the surgeon. it might be scary but it'll be better to find out what it is so you don't have to live in pain! they might know right away and i'm sure it's an easy fix! you should go! life is short...you don't want to live it in constant pain. good luck and let us know what happens!

Hi Cazajacks:
When I started reading your message, the first thing I thought of was fibromyalgia, then as I continued reading I noticed that someone felt you had fibromyalgia. I have fibromyalgia, and I have all the symptoms you have described. Vulvodynia, along with interstitial cystitis, and IBS, are very common symptoms with people who have this condition. It is horribly painful, and many doctors do not understand what is going on since the light bulb has not gone on in their heads.

The way I found help was to find the right doctor who really understood fibromyalgia. I am on a protocol of guafenesin, a low carb diet, and excercise, and I am 100% improved, and I no longer suffer from pain down under. It might take some searching on your part to find an understanding physician - it took me 10 years to get the correct diagnosis. If you want more information on guafenesin protocol, look up www.guaidoc.com. There is a lot of information in this website that will help you to understand what your condition might be. Another way to find help is to call your local hospital and ask about a fibromyalgia support group.

One other condition this might be is celiac disease (allergy to wheat products). You should be given a blood test for this, if that has not yet happened.

I encourage you to pursue these possiblilities so you can obtain some peace in your life. I know how this feels. I can remember the days when my whole focus in life was my rear end. BUT, there is an answer for you just as there was for me, so give this a try.

Hi kirstee, thanks for the reply and thank you to others who replied. I do have fibromyalgia, and i have looked up a site about vulvydnia and feel this is not what i have, as it is my perineum that is killing me, the site states it is the vulva area the isbad with vuvadynia. i search everytime i go on here for what this can be with no luck. thanks for your help

It sounds like a post shingles pain syndrome or maybe even a form of herpetic virus. Have the ran labs on it by swabbing?
I am so sorry for your pain. I have a bleach sensitivity so white tp makes me very painful. sometimes horribly. Feel better soon

But if it was herpetic would it stay there for over a year, not even disapearing for a few hours, this pimple/lump/spot is there 24 hours a day 7 days a week 52 weeks of the year, it swells up and goes down and so on. constantly raw and hurting, also i have never had shingles so could it be this.

Hey Cazajacks,

I am gonna jump in here because I think I may be able to help- My husband about 3 months ago developed a peri-anal abcess. It started quite small so we thought it was an external hemmroid. Within a weeks time it grew to the size of 2 inches long and quite raised. He was in AGONIZING pain so we went to a colon/rectal dr. When we got to his office the abcess was so huge and infected it ruptured in the office. The dr. had to cut it open the rest of the way to drain it. He has now been on 2 rounds of anti-biotics and the abcess has now formed a fistula which drains non-stop.(fistula is a passage formed from infection almost like a small tube) He is scheduled for a colonoscopy March 10th to find out why the fistula has formed. Somtimes it drains pus and other times it drains blood(Not to be gross). We had never heard of any of this but it kind of sounded like what your going through.

Thanks so much for your input, i appreciate any ideas. I did wonder if this could be an abcess but it is now 15 months, i cannot see this would go on this long without bursting or making me ill. I am always in pain, everysingle day of my life, and sometimes it does bleed, like when it swells up it seems to burst, but i cannot feel it do this, i can only tell by the blood. Trouble is that it is in a position where i cannot see it, only the Dr has ever seen it so i cant tell of any changes. I feel that if it was an abcess surely the poison would have got into my bloodstream by now. I was speaking to my Dr the other day and she did make a comment that when i had the colonoscopy they did mention that my perineum apart from belly swollen was also protuding. Well what the hell does that mean, they just seem to say oh thats ok its nothing to worry about. well to me it rules my life, it disables me, i can really sympathise with your hubby, some days i can function but other days the pain is so bad i cry, i have to lay down to take the pressure off my butt, and it makes my whole left side of my body ache massivly. No one has ever heard of this so you never know, maybe i have a brand new illness????????
Or again maybe the Drs just dont take enough notice more like.
Thanks once again

Nikki's Hubby here,

Look into anal abscess, browse on the net. I had one last Nov, now they are reoccuring. It is the most painful thing I have ever had. People with different intetsinal problems can get these. Some swell to the point of rupture as mone did, right in th lobby of the Dr.s office. Some go down and away on there own. Just a thought, look it up on the net, also look at fitula. They can be a side affect of an abscess.

Thanks so much for your help. I looked up theses abcesses but it still does not sound exactly like what i have? I just cannot find out what it is, i can only live my life using this fantastic aneastetic cream called Xyloproct. It is fantastic, but if i dont use it quick enough once it flares up i cannot stop the pain. Other people cannot understand the pain you can be in with your Butt can they. i will keep looking for an answer, thanks once again

Please find new doctor!

Maybe it is a Bartholins Cyst?

just a thought...but is it possible you have a complicated fissure? I ask this because that's what I have. The least of my problems is the actual "cut" in my sphincter, it's the attached inflamed, swollen, painful "tags" that accompany it. The only way to relieve the pain is to lay down, and they do sometimes bleed...sounds kind of like what you are talking about. Where exactly is this spot located? In any case, after the amount of time you've been in the kind of pain you're describing, I think you might find a visit to a colon surgeon a relative walk in the park. Good luck! Lynn
