HI there. (this is embarassing but i need to ask someone- if Harry is still here from a few years ago hi :) and i hope you are doing well)

For a couple of months now I've been having odd bowel movements. In the past i have suffered from quite bad constipation, but after a time of using the laxative drink movical things got back to normal and I've not used it for over a year now

However, these last couple of months I've had this problem: When i feel the urge to go, i *have* to get to the toilet- and as soon as i sit down i get pain, and a very quick release of stool.

It absolutley stinks (i know nobody's waste smells of roses, but this is like, a really bad smell) and it is usually really sludgy (sorry to be so graphic) and sticks to the bottom of the toilet.

I'm trying to get up the nerve to see my GP, but i find talking about stuff like this embarassing- i know they are used to this sort of problem, but i still do-

I was wondering whether anybody here could suggest what may be causing this, so i am more prepared for when i go to talk to my GP

Happy new year everybody,

Hayley

I've had a similar problem for a while now, but I haven't been on antibiotics. What else could cause this?

let us know what it is hayley! sometimes antibiotics cause your intestines to go wacky! :) sometimes they cause intestinal infections...either way...the doctor will figure it out! post back and let us know how you're doing.

Antibiotics seem to have a bit of a strong laxative effect on some people. Any other reason should really be checked out by your GP

When you go see your doctor be sure to bring a list of all your symptoms and be descriptive. Don't worry, the doctors have heard it all before. Although it can be embarrassing to talk about these issues, your health is more important. Good luck with your appt. -tj04

the smell may be because u are not digesting your food properly. try eating some digestive enzymes with your food. try them from an plant source so ur body does not get used to the pills and stop producing its own enzymes. as for the pain, it may be related to hemmoroids which are common especially for people that are constipated. with hemmeroids, they could be either internal or external and cause pain with passage of stool. there might also be blood on ur tissue when u wipe. try preperation h. most important, treat the constipation. don't take laxitives which ur body will get addicted to. use exercise, water and fiber. try natural fiber first and or metamucil. good luck with everything.

Hi Hayley,
I'm still here--- Sorry about your problems!!

I agree with all the members that have posted their advice to you. Antibiotics can really mess up your digestion several ways. It first causes your friendly intestinal bacteria to get out of balance so that you cannot digest food properly. There are over 400 different bacteria strains in your intestines that need to be balanced. You could have developed a yeast/ candida type infection?? Some bacteria are resident and some just help digestion as your food passes through-- along with digestive enyzmes as Joe suggested-- I take digestive enzymes with every meal.
I am currently using Essential Enzymes by Source Natruals.

You need to get the friendly bacteria back in balance by eating a good brand of yogurt 3 or 4 times daily. Not all yogurts are the same-- some are better than others -- the ones I like best contain many other active cultures --than the 2 that is used to make yogurt-- Stonyfield Farm & Cascade are very good brand that health food stores sell.

There are some probiotics that help re-colonize your intestines with friendly flora that are stronger than yogurt --- I like and have used Pearls by Enzymatic Therapy, PB-8 by Nutrition Now, Culturelle, Jarro-Dophilus and Primadophilus Reuteri after taking antibiotics to help. I buy them cheaper online. Of course there are other available but these I have used in the past year and are Good.
Also, you could drink Kefir --- it has many different friend bacterii.

To make your intetines function properly and not be constipated -- you need to intake 25 to 35 grams of fiber daily along with water and exercise. The fiber needs to be a combination of both soluble and insoluble fiber.

As you may know constipation cause toxins and antigens to build up in your intestines and can cause all sort of ailments.

As Joe said laxatives are not good but for short periods!! Hemorrhoids can and do cause pain with BMs.

God Bless---Harry
