I know that I have carpal tunnel, however the job that I do requires me to be on the computer alot. I have no back up for the job that I do. I need the surgery but need to know aprox how long to expect to be out of work. (LOL). For those that have had the surgery how in the world do you wash and style your hair, at some point and time this will have to be done.

I had ulner nerve surgery in January 05., the only thing I can say about recovery is it is different for everyone. Some say after 8 weeks they are back to work, others may be longer. The real reason I am writting to you is to let you know, it is amazing what you can do with one arm lol. My husband had to help me with my bra, and a few other things. but you will be able to wash your hair with 1 hand, shaving is a different story :confused: . As for styling your hair, I had a perm put in before the surgery so all I had to do was pick my hair. If that is not an option, a hat or have your husband or friend style your hair. I just returned to work this week after carpal tunnel surgery. It's true that every person recovers at a different pace. I expected to be back at work after only one week (I do all computer work, all day long also). But, was surprised that I was too sore to even think about returning to work. It took me about 3 weeks to feel comfortable enough to be at work all day long, not to mention driving. Even now, I"m still a little sore, can't make a tight fist, and hesitate to lift anything too heavy with that hand. Great question about the hair styling! I have curly hair, but usually style my bangs. I had to prop my legs on a table, rest the hair dryer between my legs, hold the brush with my good hand, and raise the hair dryer slightly by resting it on the top of my injured hand. It was very awkward, and must have looked ridiculous!!!

But, don't let that stop you from getting the surgery. They say if you wait too long, you risk permanent nerve damage.
