Hi. I'm new to this board and the reason I'm here is because I think I may have CTS. I'm only 15 years old, but I love typing and have loved playing with with computers/electronics/video games since an early age.
I also play guitar and piano and I plan on being a graphic designer when I'm old enough, so my future career will involve computers.
About a year ago I noticed that my hands would feel extremely weak and I would drop things very easily. Long before that my hands would get extremely cold and if I sat at the computer for a long time I would get a feeling of heaviness in my legs. A few months ago I had severe tingling and numbness in both of my hands that reached up to my forearm. My Mom bought me wrist splints, which she told me to wear during the day. I changed the setup of my computer and changed the way I do things.
The feeling went away but a few days ago it came back again. I've heard CTS doesnt affect the little finger, but the tingling is in all of my fingers, which makes me wonder. Should I go the doctor and which doctor should I see? Thanks for reading; any help would be appriciated.

Sounds like it could be carpal tunnel, but don't let the tingly fingers fool you. My pinky and ring fingers on both hands go numb and night and tingle during certain activities during the day. Everything pointed to cubital tunnel (in the elbows), but after an EMG, I've been diagnosed with carpal tunnel. I mentioned that the wrong fingers were tingly to my doctor, so how could it be carpal tunnel, and he said that in a "textbook case" the thumb and index fingers would tingle, but I don't have a "textbook case" of carpal tunnel. Only an EMG can determine for sure what the problem is. I saw a physical therapist first, before having an EMG, but it's up to your doctor. You should get it checked out, you might be able to correct the problem before surgery is required. Good luck

Neko,
You have carpal tunnel. You need to sleep with splints (a pain, I should know). Limit the time you use your computer. I finally had surgery on both hands--right in July and left in October. Right before I had my right hand done, I was dropping at least one thing each day, I couldn't hold my arm up for more than 3 seconds before pain would set in and I couldn't twist a cap off of a bottle of soda. Now I can do all of those things, but I still have some problems. I read it could take a year to be completely better. I had open surgery which means that they cut through all 7 layers of skin, cut the ligament causing the damage and then stitch it up. Endoscopic surgery makes 2 cuts and then makes a tunnel under that so a scope can go in and cut the ligament. I was put to sleep for my procedure. You are young, but since you are doing all the things that cause CTS, you have it early. The decision for me to have surgery (at age 48) was that I couldn't take it anymore. I said enough! this has to be done and done now.
