Chello everyone,
Let me give a quick history, 36 yr. old female with type 1 diabetes(in last 2 yrs), hypothyroidism, depression. In the past year or less My period has definantly become a whole different monster. The first 5 days of my period are pretty normal and then when my period is supposed to be stopped I start passing pretty large glots with excessive bloodloss. Next part is graphis so STOP :nono: here if you are faintHEARTED. i WARNED YOU TO STOP!!!!!!! aNYWAY FOR THOSE OF YOU STILL READING. These clots are usually like blackberry jam. I got used to that but the past 2-3 months and tonite in particular these clots were what I would say more like little peices of liver with lots of blood attached. At one point I put a large tampon in and literally 3 minutes later it was flooding. I was cutting my childs hair and my daughter sais oh mommy you cut yourself. Ofcourse I knew it wasn't that. I couldn't get off the pot for 10 min. while I passed a few more clots. My question here is I want to know is this beggining of menopuase?????? Do any of you pass these kinda clots?. I have only passed these types of clots after the birth of my kids and they are both in elementary school. I had a pap-smear and a check for std's and all that about 5 months ago so it can't be that. I do have problmes with vaginitis, yeast and bladder infections from my diabetes. I really don't want to post all this in any other form because of men reading them. Hope to hear soon as I'm worried to death. I'm going to call my endocrinologist tomorrow, but I'd feel better hearingf from some of you seeing as he has never had a period :D . Thanks in advance.

The same thing happens to me except the clots aren't quite so big--maybe the size of a quarter or half-dollar. I can't even let my daughter into the bathroom with me when I am having my period because the toilet water is COMPLETELY red and looks like blood. I can actually hear the clots falling into the toilet when I use the bathroom. I am 34 and have two children, but mine are a little younger than yours. This started somewhat after the birth of the first child who is 5 now, and got MUCH MUCH worse after my second child, who is almost 3. I don't have any other health problems and I don't know what could be causing this. Nobody can give me an answer either. I have an appointment with a specialist in a few weeks and hope to find out what is wrong with me.

;) Hi Summertyme, I'm a little relieved to hear someone else is doing the same thing. It's funny what you said about being on the potty, my 6 yr old daughter was in the bathroom with me and said "oh my goodness mom, your making a mess but your proably not gonna die". I explained to her that
"sometimes mommys do this but we have to go thru this sometime to have babies", and I'm too mean too die. That seemed to be a good enough answer for her. Since I've had children, I have forgotten what privacy is. I wouldn't know what to do if I were asked to close or lock a door(hee-hee).
Hopefully others will post here to let us know what their experience has been, but either way please post what you find out when you go to the specialist. Thaat info may help my gynecologist and my endocrinologist. Thanks for the relief you brought to me, just by saying you had been there and done that.

My mother had exactly what you are describing, she went to her gyno, and had an ultrasound done. They found lots of fibroids, and the doc said this is what is causing her clots, and abnormal amount of blood loss. She had an ablasion (sp?) done, and since then, her periods are sooo much better. Fibriods are still there, but aren't causing any harm right now.

My periods used to be like that and eventually I was diagnosed with endometriosis. That type of bleeding is definitely 100% something to see your doctor about! Good luck, let us know what happens!

Im exactly the same. The clots i pass are huge and i flood like mad, but i have endometriosis and an enlarged uterus (for which im having surgery).
I have suffered like this for years, dont go down the road i did by just accepting it as normal. Get yourself checked by a gyno.

Deffinately see a gyno. It could be Fibroids, or Endometriosis and or Adenomyosis (internal Endometriosis of the Uteris.) You need a Laporoscopy done, maybe even a MRI.

Hi Guys,
You see my screen name??????? Well it is the truth yet, my health in the last few years has been atrotious(sp??). I have hypothyroidism, type 1 diabetes(late onset), adhd, depression(possibly bipolar) and now female issues. I think I'm going to change my screen name to MiEverGonnaHEAL? :) :D

I know exactly how you feel honey! I'm only 29 and have been PLAGUED with medical issues for the past 15 years! Migraines (those are pretty much gone now thank goodness), then my endo, IBS, Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia, Some dental problems, and most recently a 6 day stay in the hospital due to some horribly torn ligaments in my abdomen that I don't even know how I got!!! It can be so frustrating.
The only thing you can do is to make sure you treat each problem with your doctor. The sooner the better. The longer you wait the more advanced some problems can get and then cause you even more trouble. I know it is hard... But keep posting here. I have found a lot of supprot on these boards. :) - Tina

I get somewhat clotty periods also, but not every month. I get them like once or twice a year. When I asked my gyno, she didn't think anything was wrong and even said that this could happen in your 30's: can get bad and then better at times..... not sure if true, just what she said.

If yours are random and aren't really problemsome for you then your doctor is probably right and they aren't anything to worry about. If they get worse over time or become more unbearable that could be a sign of some worrsening condition. Hopefullly you neve rhave to worry about it! :)

Thanks :)
Yeah, its more like every once in awhile it gets out of hand, but then other times its like hardly anything.... gyno not worried so I'm not either. However I do get clotty each month, even though it may not be a Niagra Falls flow??????? Is that bad???

Clotting is not abnormal as long as it isn't combined with out of control bleeding or unbareable pain. If not either, then I wouldn't worry about the clots.

Hi Don't -
I was experiencing the same situation. THe clots, a Super Plus tampon getting soaked in a matter of minutes. I went to my gyno who mentioned the Novasure Endometrial Ablation (Radiofrequency). You must be done with having children as this procedure burns about 1/8" of your uterine lining.
She had to do an ultrasound first to rule out fibroids...ugh the 6 glasses of water.. and an endometrial biopsy...momentary OUCH to rule out cancer. THen she did the procedure...outpatient surgi center... anesthesia - about an hour...no more heavy periods. :bouncing: I had it done in July and so far so good. This month I did have 1 clot, but other than that, it is just spotting.
My fingers are crossed that this will last. Talk to your gyno.
