View Full Version : How long can an outbreak last?

I'm not sure I have herpes, but I suspect I might. I have not been sexually active since June last year and I always used a condom. But back in September I noticed something starting to happen, not on my penis but around it in the pubic hair. I got this this little hard bump that started to itch for a day or two and then it would feel fine for a few days. This kept cycling for a few weeks and everytime it itched it would be swelled a little. As soon as this seemed to clear up, a new tiny hard bump in a different location started to itch much worse than the first one. After a couple of days the itching stopped and it turned into a very small open sore about 2mm in diameter. It was not at all painful but it took a couple weeks until it completely healed so i'm pretty sure it was not a pimple (it healed back into a small bump that i'm assuming is scar tissue?). Immediately after this healed, something a little different started to happen, I noticed something pop up that looked like an insect bite (skin is slightly red and swollen) that lasted two days, but no discomfort or itching. Since then I have been experiencing these spots that look like insect bites one at a time in different locations. They fully show up from nowhere within hours, never itch, always last two days, and there is never more than one occuring at a time. Sometimes after they disappear if I press into the skin I can feel a really tiny bump left behind. For the last couple months I just seem to be stuck in this cycle of 2 days with an "insect bite" and 2 days without. Again there is no itching or discomfort associated with these, just my concern. I'm assuming (without having been tested) that this is possibly herpes. If it is can the outbreaks last this many months????

It sounds suspicious, that's for sure. If it is herpes, it's probably that your body hasn't quite built up enough antibodies to fight it off is why it is coming back...over and over again. You say it started in September so that's not abnormally long as you will read of many members here have herpes outbreaks for a long time. I may be wrong but it just seems to me that men's symptoms aren't as bad as women's symptoms most of the time but not always of course. I was exposed to herpes back in Feb and didn't have a full blown outbreak until November, but looking back on it...I had these bumps pop up and go away around my pubic hair area several time since Feb. I never once suspected them to be herpes though because I didn't know that herpes could be just a raw looking raise bump that my BF had on him the very first time we had sex :(
