I have been having problems with numerous symptoms since last Jan. I had flue like symptoms on and off till June '05. I then started to bleed from my rectum. I went to the ER and was told to follow up with a GI. I have since had 5 colonoscopies, 1 endoscopy, EGD's, and 2 small bowel series. I have seen 4 specialists in two different states, and still have no diagnosis. My daily symptoms have started to get worse. I have diarrhea about 6 times or more a day with occasional blood. I swell really bad after I eat ANYTHING! I look like I am pregnant. I am in a lot of pain as well. I can't sleep well, even though I am fatigue all day. I feel weak and short of breath. I am losing my hair and my teeth are brittle. My vision is going as well. I don't smoke nor drink, really. I am very irritable all the time. I have hot flashes and recently fevers. I feel like my back is always hurting. I also can't sit/lay for long as I feel like my legs have that restless leg syn. I have extreme weight loss (30lbs) then extreme gain (50lbs). I have been on numerous medications to try to help with no avail. I have always been very active and healthy till the past year or so. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate your time. Thanks!

Have you ever been tested to see if you have an allergy to wheat? Not sure if celiac disease would cause any of what you have described.

have you had any blood tests to see if you have an infection of some form? c diff test? have you altered your diet at all to a bland diet? kept a food diary to see a pattern? :(

I have been tested for so many things I can't remember them all. I know that I had recently heard about celiac disease. I went to my doctor just last week and he tested me for that and carcinoid turmors. I have kept a diary of everything I have eaten and my bowel movements and times that I take my meds since June. I stay away from dairy and herbs and spices. I am not sure what else I can do. Also, when I was at the doctors office last week he told me that I may need to add MORE fiber to my diet!?! What does that mean? I feel like I spend my whole day in the bathroom or planning around the nice public ones. I'm not sure where he is going with this one. What is the c diff test?

Thanks for writing...I just went back through some of my records that I have and I was tested for C DIFF Toxin A/B on June 12, 2005 and the results were negative. I was on leviquin and flagyl at that time per my GI doctor. I continued it for the next two months. Could that pose as a trigger for it to be positive now? I have another appointment with my doctor on Friday. Is doing a colonscopy the only way to test for it?

c diff is an infection of the intestines. although i didn't realize you've had it for so long so it's most likely not that. c diff causes stinky / loose stools. hmm...could it be stress related? thyroid?

I am not sure about the stressed symptoms. I have recently moved back to SC because I called off my wedding. I was diagnosed with Crohn's and my fiance decided that he needed to take "comfort" in someone elses "arms". I was left with a house and three dogs to take care of because I so foolishly put everything in my name, yet titled it all half to him. So that would explain why I am still stressed about trying to get him to help pay for things or get out. But legally, I can't make him leave. I am so stuck! I am so sick of being sick, but I don't know what to do. I feel like there is no end in sight. I keep thinking that I don't know how it could get much worse before it gets much better. I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster. Any "witch doctor" cures for the "ex-blues"?

i'm very sorry to hear about everything that has been happening to you. :( hmm...well...have you tried exercise? sometimes even a brisk walk can help your mental state. meditation, balanced diet with vitamins / supplements, or maybe even counseling? some of those things might make you feel better until you can find out if you have another medical condition. i know sometimes with crohns you don't get the proper vitamin intake so you have to take supplements. do you take vitamins? well...keep your head up...things will get better....definitely. :) let us know how you're doing!

I have been going to a homeopathic docter to help out with my ibs/crohn's. I believe the diet has worked for my situation. I really have to avoid any process food, fried food, milk, sugary foods. You would think that doesn't leave much to eat. Well, I have adjusted my life to making home made entree's. And keeping it simple! Food tends to trigger alot in the gi tract. Hope it helpS!

Hi Niki1217,
It sure sound like it is something autoimmune going on. There is a great rheumatologist in the Columbia-Lexington area, and the ones at the teaching university hospital in Charleston are also very good. You may try getting in at one of those places to get started.
I hope this helps.

Are you seeing a specialist? If not you need to tell your doctor to send you to a gastroenologist......(spelling?) Anyway you can pretty much guess what I mean. If you already are seeing one and he/she doesn't figure it out soon tell him or her to send you to a teaching hospital, you need a diagnosis soon.
Good luck, and please return and let us know you are okay.
