Hello

I had my right kidney removed on June 20. I had kidney stones that made the kidney non functioning. It was a simple nephrectomy, with just the kidney itself removed. I had open surgery, so I have a 9 inch scar. I was released from the hospital in 4 days. I have had no real complications from the surgery. I am on potassium citrate therapy to make sure the stones do not recur (calcium stones). I returned to work 2 months after surgery...I am a teacher.

I will be happy to answer any questions

Good luck

I had my right kidney rebuilt in 1987. I had a blood vessle wraped around the urater (sp) and it caused it not to function. At that time I had 45% function in my R kidney and 55% in the left. In 92 I had scar tissue blockage and in Jan 2005 i was told that I had a stone. I didn't have insurance so I was just sent home to pass it on my own :o . I was still having problems at the end of the year and I finally had insurance so I had an ivp done and my r kidney was not draining at all. I went in to have a stent and they discovered a large tumor (noncancerous) where my uriter goes into my bladder. They removed that and put the stent in for 7 LOOOOOOONG painful weeks. A week after it was removed i had another function test and the kidney still will not function . So we are trying to decide if I want to repair it or just remove it. I have had cronic pain for over a year now and I just want to be well. I have gained tons of weight, I am alwayse exhausted (and I cant spell) and every aspect of my life is suffering. I am worried about the recovery time and being out of work for so long. When I had my first surgery I had a 14 inch incision, spent 11 days in the hosp. and then got a very bad infection. It was very very painful, but I was only 17 and I know that medicine has progressed since then. I just hope then when it is all said and done it will all be over finally. I will se my urologist tomorrow afternoon and I will ley you know what we decide. Thanks for the info

I had both kidneys removed a year and a half ago. Except for waking up in alot of pain, it went very smooth. I went in on a Wednesday and went home that Saturday.
