I have heard that methadose contains less than 10mg of methadone... I was wondering if you could tell me more about that and your experience with it? I have only been on the methadone for a month. On my last script the pharmacy gave me half methadone and half methadose because they didn't have enough of either to fill 120 of them for me... Now I have heard that the methadose can be not as effective... I'm looking for more info on that before next Thursday when my script will be refilled. If the pharmacy will only give me methadose I might have to talk to my PM doc about switching pharmacies. Thanks in advance for any info you might be able to share! :)

Tina,
I believe if you search my posts you will find what Shore wrote about mallincrap pharmaceuticals methadose. My question was the same as yours.

Hey Tina,, Although I have been on a coupele tmes ove the holiday, I have really bee trying to limt my time on the PC when my wife took h e week off and my dayghter was home. I couldn't elp but read a bunch of posts and mant to get back to you. But the searcch feature for the forums is a greeat tool. If you needed the recipe for Yakima fruit paste I'm sure the forum search deature will pop is right up.
Sooryy I didn;t getachance to repond but I'm glad you found the info. The scaryy statistic was tat only 17& of the docs polledven knew there was a difference between generics and bane brand They don't understand the perimaters of Bio-equivelance.
My wife worked for 3 big rpharnamacy retailers over a 7 or 8 year perrod, and evry pharamcy offfered an additional; bonus as long as the generic to proprietary "name Brand" drugs they had sold were above the proper percenatge. IN the neighboor hood of 70%+ of all scripts filled, so of couse the pharmacist' tells us generics are the exact same drug when they get paid a bonus to sell the products that generate the highest gross margin of profit. Generics are cheap and we are happy to save a few bucks when they are saving thousands.
I could go on and on about Mallicrap, but I'm enjoying the quite . ;) Anway, I hope you had a nice holiday,
Take care
Dave

This is the article that explains what equivalent actually means and how important it is to be truly equivalent. It discuses how the generics must be equivalent but it has ranges that are expectable parameters that don't create a large enough change to be clinically significant.
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3015266
Approval of a generic version of a proprietary drug by the FDA requires demonstration of “chemical equivalence” (similar quantities and availability of the active ingredient in proprietary and generic formulations), and “bioequivalence” (defined by absorption parameters generally falling between 80% and 125% of those obtained with the proprietary agent under the same testing conditions) (2) The use of the –20%/+25% rule is based on a regulatory decision that for most drugs that difference in concentration of the active ingredient in blood will not be clinically significant.
The whole article is good and maybe you can make a believer out of one person who can't except that not all generics are the same. Then again if only 17 % of docs have the accurate scoop, what can we really expect. 8 out of ten docs told her so, they were wrong, but that's harder to except than the parameters.
There are parameters for generic testing against the proprietary drug "name brand". The scary thing is, there are no clinical trials or comparison from one generic to the other, just comparison to the proprietary drug. So if one generic company is at the top of the parameter and using +25% and the other is at the bottom using -20% then your talking about a 45% variation..
The American heart association is considered an accurate source.
Take care, Dave

Dave,
I have been away , how do you feel? I hope you are doing well. My friend usually gets his script at the local hospital and consistantly receives the 10mg 54/542 Roxxane. He had a problem, the hospital was out of the roxane pills and only had the methadose. He called me to ask a question.
I told my friend about your knowledge and bad experience with mallinckrodt so he usually gets the small 54/142 tablets and all his pharmacy had was the methadose. He called around and found Dolophine. I thought you said these were better for pain than methadose. They are oblong and have M on one side and 5771 on the other. I told him to get these. Did I screw up? He has been on methadone for years and can't afford to have a pill that makes him withdraw like you did. What is Dolophine? I did not see the bottle and I hope I did not send him down the wrong path. If you have time would you respond. I will pass the info on. I know your knowledge came from much pain and suffering but you help a lot of people.

Guitar Lover: You did fine and didn't screw up. Dolophine is the name brand of Methadone. He should notice no difference between these and the generics by Roxanne. I've taken both and I now take the 10 mg Meth by Roxanne because they're much cheaper with my insurance. You're right though, just stay away from Methadose.
