well I dont know what the heck is wrong with me,but I went to the ER a couple weeks ago due to pain in my left arm/chest.I had these pains off and on for a few months. The pain has been achy, sharp, burning. When its in my chest its just small spots usualy upper right or upper left side.Anyway ER doctor did and echo, ekg, blood, chest xray and found nothing abnormal. He told me to have my doctor get a stress test for me,but I cant I have no insurance. He also told me he doesnt think its my heart, but he cannot be for absolute.I am 31 yrs old mother of 5.....I smoke I dont always eat right.I have noticed alot more gas and burping lately and I have had some indigestion and heartburn. The other morning really scared me suddenly I had some deep burning pain in my left upper shoulder blade this pain radiated till it went down my shoulder and into my forearm. The pain is never that bad more annoying then anything it lasted about half hour and I took 2 Ibuprophren and it subsided. I guess id like to know if this sounds like gerd if anyone else has experianced these types of pains.........also my arm will feel fine in between all this.

thanks

I too have had chest pains, until recently they have been in my collar bones. Now I have them at various places in my chest. I complained about these pains (to several doctors) for the last 10 years. FINALLY, after moving to Costa Rica (and having some of the same tests I had in the U.S.) it was discovered that I have chronic gastritis, diverticulosis, GERD, a hiatal hernia and a rare chest hernia that I've had since birth but was never noticed in the U.S. It really makes me wonder whether the HMO just didn't want to pay for further testing. Anyway, I am now scheduled for Laparoscopic Fundoplication on Jan. 16. At this time he will repair the two hernias, the Dr. feels the gastritis and the diverticulosis may have been caused by the GERD and that hopefully this will take care of many of my problems. I was told that 1/3 of my stomach has been pulled into my thorasic area due to the large hernia(s). This has caused breathing problems and the chest pain.

After reading the boards I'm not looking forward to the Fundo but we do what we have to do. BTW, I'm 63 yrs old and my husband and I retired to Costa Rica nearly 3 years ago.

oh wow crlady its about time someone noticed your problem huh? The chest pains you had were they stab pains? and were they painful or just annoying? How about arm pain did you have any ? Sorry to ask all these questions I would just really like to know what the hay is going with me and maybe I can get an idea at least to go to the doctor with and ask.

I hope the procedure you are having done goes great and you will be free of all your troubles.

Yes, it's about time it was taken care of. Sometimes I did have stabbing pains but mainly just pain in certain areas which were also sensitive to the touch. I remember having to drive with one arm, then when the pain got bad in the collar bone on that side, I'd switch to the other arm. Vicious cycle. I've never had the pain radiate into either arm althought sometimes it hurts in my underarm area. For years it's been difficult to do anything that involved raising my arms (like cleaning windows, etc). I'm hoping the surgery does well and eliminates many of my problems.
