it has been almost three weeks since I got botox in my neck and traps and here is what I can say so far:
The neck was better, except I did get the weakened muscles and now it hurts bc I can't hardly hold my head up(I can hold it up in normal position-just not forward and up)! It is bad when sweeping, looking down like writing in class, doing laundry, washing my face and so forth. So before I was sore bc of the spasms, and now I am sore bc of having to hold it up all the time-I even have to use my hand to hold my head up.
I got a little relief in my traps but not enough for me to have this done again. I am less tight, but I also haven't been in school for two weeks and hardly worked, so I may have been more relaxed simply bc of that. I am going to try to get some acupuncture and see a chiro to work on the muscles, less than the bones and stuff. So, I wish I could say I feel great, but I don't, though I am not worse either, which could have happened.

Thanks for the update! You just confirmed for me that I made the right decision in not having that done. I was also worried about some comments of extreme headaches for the first few weeks too. Again I appreciate the information! Hope things get better for you.
Take care,
Drew

Thanks for letting all of us know about the botox inject. I was wondering if I would benefit. I won't be having that done. I already have enough pain holding my head up.

I really wish It had worked more than it did. Sitting here now after a day in clinicals and I don't feel any better. I am happy that I was able to help you all by telling you my experience. In a way I am happy though, bc I would have had to do this every three months and it just didn't seem worth it. GUess I am on to the next step, whatever that is.

it seems like there is always one of us who is the guinea pig for others.unfortunetly the botox was not for you.I never would have even thought about the fact that by treating those particular muscles would have actually resulted in your losing the stability in your neck like that.i wonder just what else would be affected for me if i went ahead and did have this done for the spasticity in my legs.Hmmm.i definitely will fully research this before i decide to do anything regarding botox.sorry things didn't go better for ya,but hey we all have done things here to try and treat our pain that have not turned out the best but i do suppose that if we did not try all of the options we would end up sitting there wondering 'if only' ya know? I hope the effects will dissapate soon Mel.and thanks for takin one for the 'team".Hang in there hon, marcia

hangin' in :)
The botox is supposed to "paralyze" the signal from the brain to the nerve of the muscle to make it stop spasming. Really, it did that, but bc I lost strength too, the pain now of holding it up in the not so normal fashion makes the pain worse. Looking down say to sweep, or if you look down but raise your eyes, reading and writing, EATING! I have to sometimes rest my forehead on my fingers just to relax the muscles while I do whatever needs to be done, Like charting on my patients today.
So, has anyone tried any meds other than narcs and muscle relaxer that have worked???
Oh, I might consider having it done again if ONLY in my traps. They are still tight and didn't get most of the medication. But, we'll see......

I saw one post that said spinal decompression works. But that is out for me because Medicare will not pay for the procedure. It is supposed to be 88% effective.
