Well usually herpes cold sores are Type 1 but not always, just as genital herpes isn't always type 2. Yes he can give you genital herpes orally if he has herpes even if a cold sore is not present, they call that shedding. If he was tested for herpes type 2 and it came back positive for type 2, you can rest assured he has type 2 herpes. False positives are very rare. You symptom is probably a vaginal infection again since you've had this happen before and you are familiar with the symptoms. Herpes doesn't cause a foul smelling discharge though but it can be discolored. My discharge was slightly bloody during most of my first OB. I would tell you what symptoms to expect from herpes but they vary so greatly from person to person, it would be easier for you to do a little research and look up herpes symptoms. There are so many different symptoms!
