I have a question for anyone who can help....
Back in August I was put on medication that I was later allergic to. It caused me to go to the bathroom countless times throughout the day which has since seemed to have cause an anal fissure. Or what I believe to be an anal fissure after researching the internet. I have a visible tear right on my anus and a skin tag has since now developled right next to the tear. I read on this board and on other sites that an anal fissure can heal on its own. So I have been waiting it out. Well it is now Jan and it is still there as well as the skin tag. Will this eventually go away or will I need the anal fissure surgery? What happens to the skin tag if it heals....does it remain?
Confused....
If anyone can offer an advice please write back
Thanks

I'm dealing with something similar. I swear I developed a fissure after my first baby was born 4 years ago. I never went to see a doc, but since that time I have suffered with a sore bottom and a tear and skin tag that "never quite heals". I just went to see my doc yesterday, and have been given a referral to a surgeon. the appointment isn't until Feb 14 - Happy Valentine's Day to me  You may want to see your doc and ask about this. I wish I would have had the courage to go a long time ago - it's been a long four years...

I developed a fissure years ago. Didn't really do anything about it -just used some preperation H and ate a salad. Then 1 1/2 years ago, it really started bothering me. Lots of blood during BMs, burning, itching, etc. Then a second one formed! One on both sides. I went to the GP, he took a look and told me to eat more fiber. It didn't help.
I stuggled for a couple months, and then the spasms set in. I would wake up in the midlde of the night with rectal spasms so painful I almost had to be sedated.
So I went to see a colo-rectal surgeon. He took a closer look, saw the 2 fissures, said they were pretty bad, and prescribed diltiazem ointment. This seemed to work for a couple weeks (bleeding was greatly reduced, so was the pain), but then I managed to tear one of the fissures open again and I was back to square one.
I scheduled a LIS surgery, and had the procedure done on 12-16-04. The procedure was a breeze, with no complications. It was like getting a tooth pulled. I even had a BM one hour afterwards, and it didn't even hurt much.
But recover is NOT immediate. That is a high traffic area, and it takes time for things to go back to normal. I had another spasm a couple weeks later, but none after that. Bleeding continued for a few weeks, but then totally subsided (this is normal after surgery).
I watched what I ate and tried not to stress. I even went in for a colonoscopy to make sure I didn't have IBD. It was all clear (I was being paranoid).
Full recovery can be expected within 3-4 months following surgery. By full, I mean that you can eat whatever you want, without worrying about blood and pain.
Risks regarding the surgery are totally overblown. I had no incontinence or anything like that.
Now I feel great. One thing that will cause problems for anyone is drinking a lot of alcohol, not eating right, and then having super hard BMs the next morning. Avoid this, and you avoid fissures.

Thank you so much for your response.
I also don't want to go to the doctor...I was hoping it would just heal. I am kinda embarrassed since I don't know what the whole thing intails. Did your doctor examine you and what exactly did the doctor do?
I am sure I will have to go see someone since the fissure is not healing at all. It seems to stay the same at all times. At times I don't feel any pain and I think it's healing but then I am wrong the pain comes and each time I check it out it looks the same UGH

Thanks Chiggins
I am just going to have to go and see a doctor and get this taken care of. I have been eating a lot of fiber so my bowel movements are soft and that just doesn't seem to help. I took stool softeners which caused me to get extreme gas so I stopped taking those. But my bowel movements are pretty much soft and the fissure has not gotten any better.
I just can't believe this is happening it is the worst feeling when I go to the bathroom or when I do normal daily activities.

chiggins-
Can you please tell me what the procedure was like? Where you awake? did they sedate you? Were you out of work for a few days afterwards? Where you in stirrups or laying on your side? Just trying to prepare myself.
Thanks

My doc didn't even examine the area, which kind of surprised me, but I guess if he was going to refer me on, why would he  I have no problem with constipation (maybe once every two months or so, and then it is almost a relief to be constipated...). I don't have so much bleeding, but I do end up with alot of pain and itching. It's like I have a shard of glass (sorry, gross, I know...) there. Just doesn't seem right to have all that pain when I am doing everything right to have soft stools. Hopefully I will get some answers next month... good luck to you!

Well, I have to say I understand how your feeling! I am recovering from surgery I had a fissurotomy and a hemorraidoctomy. I have had fissure for at least 2 years. They were cause by my running to the bathroom 14 + time a day. At first I would use Antle mantle hc it would help. Then i tried fissure heal, I bought on line at www.fissureheal.com. That help for a long time, but I started to take b12 vitamins a couple months ago and my fissure came back, so bad I had muscle spasms all the time. It hurt so bad, so i opted for surgery. The fissure surgery wasn't that payful, but I would do it as a last resort. My doctor cut my rectal muscle to get the blood flowing again, so that the fissure would heal.

Has your fissure healed Ilovelucille? Can you please tell me a little bit more about the procedure? I am afraid to go to the doctor and in all honestly I am bashful about the whole thing? I mean the thought of me going to a GI doctor and showing my bum is a little embarrasing. I mean I know the GI doc's have seen them all...but I am still bashful about it.
What are you side effects if any? Can you please tell me what the procedure was like? Was it an outpatient at a hospital? Was it in the doctors office? Were you put to sleep? How many visits did you have until the surgery? Were you put on medications?
thanks in advance for you reply

Ok people. I'm going to tell you all how I cured this problem a couple of years ago. Even though this thread is old, hopefully this will help someone.
Yogurt.
But not just any yogurt.
Wallaby Organic Yogurt. Which I buy at whole foods.
I discovered this purely by experimentation. To this day I still dont know why it works exactly, yes I know its the probitotics in it, but If I take high concentration probiotic capsules it does nothing!
I tried many different brands with some success, but this brand does the best.
And no I'm not a salesrep for Wallaby. Even though I wouldn't mind being after all its helped me.
I think if the company went out of business I would be forced to use some other ORGANIC yogurt. But I would have to try around, because this one works the fastest.
The docs wanted to do surgery on me like 3 years ago.
I surprised them by healing the 2 fissures in like 3 days!!
Yes 3 days. Thats usually how long it takes for the cuts to heal. And thats with taking the yogurt like twice a day. ONce in the morning and once at night. A true miracle for me.
Dont know if it will work for you. But it cant hurt to try........good luck.
