I have a dentist appointment on 1/13 and I want to know what it is called when a tooth is made to fill in for a molar and tooth is used to support it? I read it on this board but now I can't find it. I have lost my #29, #31 and #32 molars and it was said that the #30 tooth can have a cap put on it that has an extension on it to replace the second molar. I am chewing on one bottom tooth that is already capped and I'm afraid it is going to break off. If this makes any sense let me know what I can do.

Hi! Looks like you would be going in for a 'cantilever bridge', where there is no supporting tooth on the other side of the lost tooth. These types dont last very long & they put a lot of load on the lone supporting tooth. Here's a suggestion ..dont go for the repacement of the 2nd molar with the bridge. just replace tooth #29 with supports from #30 & #28. Think of an implant for #31 or just let it be empty..take care let me know what you & your dentist decide
