I am a first time mom to my son too. He is still only little but from what I understand boys playing with there penis starts early and never stops. LOL Not to joke, but I think he is normal. If you have had him checked and he has no infection, do you think it's purple because of bruising from squeezing it? The next time he complains of it hurting when he pees, suggest to him that he may be touching his penis a bit too hard when he is "playing." Try to talk to him about it...reassuring him he it's okay to talk to you about these things. :) Good Luck.

No infection. Is he circumcised? If not, when he plays down there, the foreskin can sometimes be tight and actually constrict bloodflow. Also if he is not circumcised, he can get an infection called balanitis which is a swelling and redness of the foreskin and the head of the penis. If he is circumcised, and there is no possibility of a yeast infection (it can happen in boys) then chances are he is just being rough with it. If you think he might have a yeast infection (characterized by a light pink rash with tiny red raised bumps) , which can be caused by a number of factors including sports...does he play football, baseball...you can buy the monistat cream and have him apply it on his penis. Even if he doesn't have a yeast infection, the monistat wont hurt him. My kids used to get thrush and yeast infections all the time when they were babies and I got tired of taking them to the doc so I asked her if monistat over the counter would work for the yeast on their lower halves and she okayed it. Ask your doc first though just to be certain. It never hurt my kids and it cured their yeast infections. Also make sure he wipes from front to back when he poops because just like us women, poop can get in the wrong places down there on little boys too.I know your son is older but yeast can still happen. Hope this helped.

Have him drink more water. His urine may be too strong and cause pain or a burning or stinging sensation.
