I have always had constipation problems. So I finally saw my doctor and she gave me zelnorm and said if it doesn't help we would run some tests. Well it isn't working. I know I have to go because it has been DAYS. And even when I feel I have to go, it is still little balls. It almost feels like my colon is back too far. I know it sounds crazy but I have to lean really far back on the toliet to even get one little piece to come out. So I got curious and stuck my finger down there. I know too much info. Any way it really is like it is way back to the back and it just won't come out.

Any idea what could be going on? I am scared to death to have a colonoscopy done. And I know that will be next.

Thanks

Well I don't have any real knowledge of what may be causing your problem but I did want to let you know that if you have to go for a colonoscopy, don't sweat it. It is really no big deal and is over before you know it. It isn't embarassing or uncomfortable and really was a breeze. I know maybe others have had different experiences but mine was no big deal at all.

You may just be running to the toilet before you really have to go badly enough and there just isn't enough force and OOMPH behind the pushing. But if you do have to go for a colonoscopy, I wouldn't be too concerned about the procedure, I just went for an endoscopy and they told me that they do the same sedation for a colonoscopy, and if it's the same as me, you know NOTHING, you fall asleep instantly and what seems like 3 seconds they are calling your name waking you up and it's all over. It was NOT an unpleasant experience at all, now I'm not even worried if I will need a colonoscopy in the future. It'll be well worth it for the peace of mind, believe me!!

I've had 5 colonoscopies. The prep is a challenge, but the procedure isn't that bad, because you should be fully sedated. As far as constipation goes, here is what works for me: for immediate relief, try a warm water enema bag (close the bathroom door and try this for 20+ minutes), drink more water, eat All Bran cereal daily, my sister finds some help from prune juice, but I hate the stuff, try probiotic capsules, to reintroduce the good bacteria into your intestines, eat yoghurt, take fiber tablets, get some exercise, increase fiber intake, in general. Make some of these things become a regular routine.

Don't fret the colonoscopy. I have had 4, 1 endo and 1 sig...all within 15 months. The worst part is the prep. I have tried pretty much all the preps. You are asleep during the procedure and completely covered up. You probably should get one, if your doctor thinks so. They can find out a lot with the results! Good luck!
