Sounds like the classic symptoms of a "migraine".

The MRI which I am assumming is what you meant to type is just a test to rule out brain tumors. I am 99.9% sure your wife does not have one.

"Over the counter" meds are not going to relieve the pain of a migraine, so don't waste your $$$$ on them. If anything, they are the leading causes of "rebound headaches."

Until your next appt (MRI test results) with the doctor, make your wife comfortable "at the ontset" of the next migraine/headache by getting an old fashion ice bag, put some ice cubes in it.
Place the bag on top of the head.
Eat Breyers Vanilla Ice Cream
Advil - use as needed (will cause rebound headaches)
Stay off of caffine
Keep a migraine/headache diary & take it with you to the doctors.
