Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone else has obsessions about existence... "why are we here".. "am I really here" type of thing. I can't get these thoughts out of my head.. and it leads to full blown panic attacks!

Any suggestions?

Can you elaborate on the specifics? A part of OCD is the uncertainty of things...in your case, why are we here or whats the point? I can say from experience that medication reduces the amount of thoughts and obsessions.

Hi KD,

Oh geez, where to begin?

Yes, my son had thoughts like those alot. When he was first diagnoseed at age 15, he is now nearly 18 we did not know what was happening as his parents.

To make a long story short I purchased for him the "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" course by Lucinda Basset. What a help it was.
Secondy, the meds were a real help. Anafranil (daily)along with a little Ativan (as needed), gave us all back our lives and the thoughts diminished remarkedably.
Since he is close to 18 his meds have been lowewred to absolute minimum and he is doing better than ever. Soon he will just skip themaltogether.

I know, these types of thoughts can be tuff. If you have good support from your parents that is a big help. The course I mentioned is also a real help, and the meds are a real help. Diet is another factor and should not be minimized. Cut back on all sugar if possible, eat a high protein diet starting with 2 eggs every morning. Sugar has a way of messing with serotonin levels.
This should greatly improve your condition.

Hello,

I know exactly what your talking about. I have the de-realization thoughts as well. Not all the time, just once in awhile. Last one I had was when I was driving. Its like a fuzzy foggy feeling. Dont worry about them. Everyone has them, and if they say they dont, they just dont recognize them like we do. Thats the main problem. Others let the thought go, or just let it be. We (those with OCD) analyze it, question our thoughts, worry, panic, and basically fear we are going crazy. The best thing you could do is to recognize your not alone, its NORMAL, and it will pass. The big key is to let it be. Eaiser said then done, but you'll eventually start to laugh at yourself for those thoughts. I still have them, but instead of overwhelming me for hours or even days, I am able to let it go usually within a few minutes. I just get busy. Read, run, write, cook, clean, whatever you like. Your normal

Take care
